Post subject:  Door Lock and Window Switches Don't Illuminate.. Please Help

Hi everyone, I bought a 05 Renegade about 2 weeks ago, and noticed that the switches for the door locks, the directional pad for the side mirrors, and the switches for the rear windows up front, all don't illuminate. I have tried to see if it was a fuse problem but I don't think it is because the switches that are out don't seem to be related. If anyone could help I would appreciate it, there about 34,000 miles on it so I am planning to take it into the dealership, does anyone know if this is covered under the bumper to bumper? Thanks everyone.

I posted this same question a long time ago because I went from a 99 Grand Cherokee to the 05 Liberty. In the Grand Cherokee all the switches had that little LED in them and they worked fine. In the liberty they all have the LED, but do not light up. I was told by the dealer that this is normal. My guess is they used the same switches (cost savings), but did not connect the wiring. I have thought about puling them out and seeing if I could run some power to them. Just haven't got around to it.

I'm pretty sure all teh electrical stuff is covered with the warranty in the 36K warranty. I had a motor go bad in my power mirror and they replaced that under warranty. i would think switches are too. Now if a wear and tear part like a regulator goes...maybe, maybe not...but being you are at 34K on the odometer, I think it will fall under that. a quick call to your stealer will verify.

So alpnst you are saying they are not supposed to light up?

That's what I was told by a dealer and some people on here. I would like to here if anyones switches do light up. The only ones that do on my rig are the front window switches that say auto and the switches in the rear passenger area. None of my door look switches light up and the switches upfront for the rear windows do not light up. Nor do my power mirror controls.

On my 07 limited the center console window switches DO light up and stay lighted until a door is opened. The mirror swithces on the door and what not DO NOT light up.

So the dealer said they should light up, and they tried to figure it out why the switches were not illuminating. and they did some research and told me that for some reason the first half of 05 the manual transmissions did not light up, and after that the rest of the 05 libbys did not have illuminating lights for those switches. Kind of strange, but glad to hear that i don't have an electrical problem.

Let me make sure I read that right - none of them actually light up, right? The first have has lights that don't work, and after that there are no lights at all?

Only the switches that are supposed to light up the front window switches that say auto and the window switches in the rear. The rear window switches up front, the door locks, and the mirror controls are not supposed to light up. At least that was what I was told.

I noticed that the rear window switches do not light up when the windo lock is activated. If you have the lock on fo rht ewindows the light on the rear window switch for the back seat will turn off.

when it gets warmer outside im hacking my door panel up and getting to the LED's. the direction pad for the mirrors have the capability of being illuminated (its not solid plastic, the arrows allow light through) and its the same for the door lock switches, and the rear window controls on the front panel. i just hate dark interiors at night, a little ambient light would work out well
