Those of you with this model CB.... Where did you find the best place to mount the mic? And where did you tap in for the power and ground? This is going to be my first radio install of any sort your expertise would be helpful... Thanks in advance..

This is one of the easiest installs to do.

First off don't do the antenna install shown above. doesn't work.

second the beautiful part about this cb is the ability to hide it anywhere.

I put mine under the drivers seat. Und scewed the four bolts and used self tapping screws and secured the box to the bottom of the seat mount. ran my antenna cable from the antenna at the rear of the KJ through the int via a grommett in the floor of the rear above the exhaust tail pipe.

then i ran an external speaker to the place inside the knee bolster and then used a circuit splitter fron napa to run constant power to the cb. tunned the anyenna and keep the mic under the seat till i want to use it. mic cord is long enough to go anywhere inside the cab. great unit.

if it doesn't work, then why does mine work? Same with the other two members on here that have done it? Ask my fellow LOST Rockies-Colorado friends. They can verify how well I send out and receive. Same with all of those that were at Moab 2005 and 2006.

I get great radio signal and CB signal. No problems transmitting either.

Over 2.5 yrs and still going. Granted, I won't get as great a signal as those with their antenna on their roof, but it works great and works for me. No problems to deal with trying to get into my garage.

mounted mine in under the center consule. tapped into the window switch power. Dont have power windows, so used the little coin holder that replaces it to exit the mic cord. Others have had it come out by the carpet. Mounted the mic on the dash by the wheel.

I mounted mine on the right side of the steering wheel on the knee panel ( right under the steering wheel) perfect spot

& we tapped into the fuse panel, had some areas not being used.

the BOX for the CB I put inside the knee panel another perfect spot & theres a slot just big enough for the connection to screw into

I just got a new CB, it is the cobra 18 WX ST II and I'm pleased with it, it's handy having the NORA weather channels, annd the speaker being on the front works really well for my install, and to add: the mic is pretty nice quality.

Just installed mine today!

A) TokyoJoe's method DOES work. What I did, however, was to turn down the 3/8" stud on the spring and cut a 5/16-18 thread on it so I didn't have to play with the stock mount.

B) I found a great place....If you look on the driver's side where the center console meets the dash (near the floor, kind of next to the diagnostic port) there's enough room where you can sit it right in there heind the carpet/console. It's totally hidden, and the handset wire runs right up the seam there, it's totally unnoticeable. For power, I tapped in behind the cigarette lighter. Easy enough to install the mic.

If you need pics, I can take some tomorrow. It's getting too dark here now.

I DID have SWR's spiked like mad. Tried tuning the tip, nothing. Played with the AR-1A splitter and viola, they are all below 1.5 now. I still have to play some more (was doing it in my driveway) when I can get myself over to a nice open area.

AdamisAdam did it first, then I did it with a litle improvement, and then Gris with even more improvement, now you. I don't know of anyone else doing it.

If you are still ooking for an install:

I mounted the Box under the steering column.

The speaker is under the drivers seat. I keep the the hand set unplugged except when off roading and then is sits is the on the middle consule.

The antenna wire is ran under the seats and out to the spare tire mount from ARB.

I know that centered is a better look, but I felt like I needed my antenna higher, so I ended up putting it on one of the two upper studs.... that and I have a bike rack on top, and my 4' firestick hardly clears it...
