I have a box with two 10's in it. One however has crapped out. Do I have to replace it so that both speakers are the same or is it fine to have two different kinds?

Thanks

same wattage, same resistance, would be a must for me. Same frequency response would be nice as well. It still may mess up your sound though.

Not a good idea at all. In a worse-case, it could lead to driver failure, minimally, it will not sound as good as it could.
Just becasue tow different dirvers may have the same nominal impedance, does not mean the impedance curves are going to be the same in a given enclousre.
Impedance is frequency-dependent resistance. The inductance curve of the driver will also be a contributing factor in it's performance.

I agree with Jl Rockies. While it would still work but you run into resistance problems which for the amp is resistance sensitive. I suggest you go out and buy some cheap 10 inchers and junk the other one that's working because if i was wired in parallel then even though 1 sub died the other one would still play but at a different ohm because the 1 sub died. Amps putting out bad ohmage for subs is very bad.
