Hardwiring a satelite radio reciever?

Post subject:  Hardwiring a satelite radio reciever?
Anyone hardwire their satelite radio's into their Jeep. I am tired of wires running everywhere and am considering doing it. Between the GPS, Satelite and CB, there are just to many wires running everywhere.


Any ideas or pics would be appreciated.

someone else had asked this same question a while back....just be sure of the voltage that your satellite receiver requires, some only use 6 volts or so and require the cig lighter plug, which contains a voltage converter.
I'm pretty certain that you cannot snip off the plug and wire it directly to a 12 vdc source.

Well, the old satellite receiver I could snip off the ends and hardwire it in, but the replacement one is 5v and requires a special converter(like the one in the plug). I ordered the vehicle installation kit from www.crutchfield.com as well as an auxillary audio input that plugs into the factory radio CD changer controls. The auxillary audio input has to inputs so that I could also install and ipod as well into the factory radio. Hopefully I can get everything installed this weekend. I also order a 3 curcuit fuse box from painless wiring that I can hardwire my GPS power cable and rewire the CB radio into so that I can get rid of the add-a-fuse that I have tapping the OEM fuse box and at the same time get back my cig lighter/12v power source.

Another option you can do is buy aanother 12v outlet and tap that into the fuse box by using an add a circuit. Mount the extra 12v outlet behind the knee panel under the steering wheel and you will be all set. Hope this helps ya out.

i wired the power for my serius radio into the cig lighter, and love it. I hate having wires draped all over the dash. The biggest pain is removing the dash trim. (Don't forget about the small screw in the back of the little cubby by the cig lighter :cry: )

So how did the kit work for you? I just got a sportster 5 and was wondering if I could plug it directly to the factory radio, instead of using the FM modulator, as well as hard wiring it to the KJ

I also got an additional cig lighter receptacle and wired it into the fuse box. I just used some heavy duty double sided tape to mount the cradle. It has held up fine all through the winter temps, I keep saying I'm going to redo it and make it neater but it's too cold and I've been lazy.

No clue as I have never even seen how Serius or XM work, hell I have never even seen it or heard it except for photos.

I got the auxillary inout device attached to the factory radio and it works really nice. The sound is way better then through the FM tuner. I have not had any time to get the kit installed to hard wire the power yet, but as soon as I get some free time it will be done. Also have a new power subpanel from painless to wire in so I dont have to add any more taps into the original fuse panel.

What I did was purchase a Cigarette outlet "Y" splitter for my Sportster 4, since it requires the plug be used, being a 6 volt tuner. I ran one end of the Y-splitter underneath the radio/heater faceplate and plugged the Sirius unit into it behind there - no visible wires! For my 12v accessories, I use the other half of the Y-splitter. Easy!

I have the SIRIUS SPORTSER 5 (5 volt) I hard wired it to(using a splicer clip) the cigarette lighter wiring ( so I can record or pause live radio while I have to be away from the vehicle for a little bit,personal preference ) I also used the FM direct setup (this cancels out the fm antenna and gives a crystal clear signal NO STATIC although still analog sound ) I mounted all wiring and hardware behind the dash panel and what little wiring was left I loomed and put thrugh the dash cubby I also used an install bracket that I had to bend a little to get the right form. Great sound/look!!

Does the location of the your radio interfere at all with the shift level? I still have not gotten the power hardwired in, but the aux input throught the CD changer is in and is still working great. It has dual input so I have a space for a future MP3/Ipod hook up.

If you meant me? No, I have more than enough room for clearing the shifter ( just pulled the shifter out to show off the radio ). I also used this kit Image

I did mean you fdems. I got the same kit but i also got a aux input device that connects to the CD changer controls and also has a second input for an Ipod so I am not using the FM mod.

I like the location of your radio and I am going to have to check it out with the Starmate 4 that I have. I believe they all have the same dock now and I have that same mount that you have.

I install lots of these in a lot of different vech, the best way I have found so far is to use this bracket kit, and install a power outlet on the back of the stock radio so the sat radio only come on when the radio comes on.

I just buy the universel ones and modify them to fit anything, I will be doing one in a f150 tonight I will try to take pics
