I want to make a sticky that provides all of the stock sound system info and what is needed for replacing each component. Once all of the info is provided, I'll clean up this thread and make it a sticky with all of the info.

I don't know all of the options so, you other LOST members, please list them.

If you are replacing just the head unit/receiver, all you need is a Chrysler harness adapter (to convert the stock harness to new receivers harness), FM antenna adapter (simple $2 cable), and sleeve and face adapter, so that it fills the gap around the DIN. It is very easy and involves crimping a few cables together.

IF REPLACING THE ENTIRE SYSTEM, WHAT DOES A PERSON NEED?
- wire cutter/striper/crimper
- wiring harness (not the one that comes in the head unit box)
- plastic head unit mounting bracket
- connectors - butt, end caps, female gauge 10-14 (not sure on gauge)
- amp kit (power wire, ground wire, in-line fuse, remote wire,rca cable)
- mono block amp for subwoofer(s) multi (2/4) channel amp for door speakers/tweeters or 5-6 channel for both door speakers and subwoofer
- 6 1/2 inch speakers (component or coaxl component is best)
- subwoofer with box
- sound deadening to dampen vibrations + amplify the sound on inside and quite the outside
- remember that a 4 ohm load is ideal but for more power you can wire speakers to a lower ohm to get more power (2 or 1 ohm is most common)
- lotsa money
IF REPLACING JUST SPEAKERS, WHAT IS NEEDED?
- 6 1/2 speakers
- cut factory connectors off and crimp female connectors on then screw in new speakers

IF REPLACING JUST THE RECEIVER, WHAT IS NEEDED?
- wire harness (not from the head unit box)
- antenna adapter
- wire cutter/striper/crimper
- butt and end cap connectors
- headunit mounting bracket

IF ADDING AN AMP TO THE STOCK SYSTEM, WHAT IS NEEDED OR CAN IT BE DONE W/O DESTROYING IT?
- not an easy task but buy a high line converter to get a low level output.
- snip the rear speaker wires at the head unit then splice in the low level output module (rca)
- add the amp

If at all possible do not cut ANY OEM HARNESS in any location. There are too many companies that supply harnesses for all aplications. I personally make all my own. Also buy yourself a good set of rachet crimpers not the cheap ones that came in the kits. Also a Power Probe is your best friend in any type of automotive electrical installation or trouble shooting.

oh yea a multi meter is your best friend. lets you make sure that you have a good ground and acceptable voltage.
