Post subject:  alternator

Hey guys! Im having a problem with my alternator. Its not strong enough to power my system. About 15 volume my amps shut off and the capacitor reads about 9volts 10volts. I had the battery checked and its fine. The alternator isnt keeping up with everything. Is there an upgraded more powerful alternator for jeep liberty's?? I have the 03 renegade alternator so it i think 160amps stock. Is there anything that gives more amps or any other tips!
Thanks guys

As far as factory units you already have the upgraded alternator (they put it in the Renegade to help power the roof lights, Sport/Limited have a 136A unit). Not sure if there is an aftermarket solution but I'm going to be looking as well because I am planning on some roof lights along with all my HAM radio stuff already in the Jeep.

excessiveamperage.com just email him for a quote. he can only get it up to 200 amps but if you want more you'll have to get a custom bracket made. adding a better battery will also help keep the voltage stable. im running a blue top optima battery with 200 amp alternator and run my 1600 rms monoblock and 150x4 channel amp on it just fine. still need to add my second battery and add 2 more amps

i was looking at those alternators but i think i remember seeing that they were not designed to handle the load from a high amperage sound system but more constant amperage loads like lights and stuff. i think i remember a disclaimer of some sort saying so but this is not to deter you from the mean green alts. best to buy the part to which it was made for. i've had mine a little over a year and no problems.

it shook something loose and i think its the rear bumper but other than that the roof flexes up and down almost a whole inch and the doors puff out a little... with the windows down. the phd5000w is wrong btw its rated at 1600 @ 4 ohms and 3200 @ 2 ohms. im only running it at 4 ohms right now and my sub wants more... alot more. i'm looking into the orion 5000d which is rated at 2500 @1 ohm which would be perfect cause i can only wire this sub up at 4 or 1 ohm. but like i say you get what you pay for in car audio especially when it comes down to powering your whole system like alternators and batteries and don't waste your time on capacitors. sorry for rambling but i get carried away sometimes about car audio.

Post subject:  Alternator Upgrade

I use my Liberty for house emergency power and needed something better than the pathetic 93 amp alternator that comes stock on the CRD. After much research, I sent a junkyard core to Quality Power in Yucaipa California.
I got the best estimate from them and they seemed to really know their stuff. It ain't cheap though. I ended up with 280 amps/ 168 amps at idle.
core cost: $75
rebuild $425
shipping back and forth, another $60 or so.

Pricey but for me, a cheaper alternative to a 2000W generator, with less noise and fuel.
In my research, I came to realize that the Denso unit used in CRD's is pretty rare and many people don't work on them and NOBODY stocks an upgraded model.
