Meh, I've had one on the Jeep before and it was a royal PITA. It would flop all over on even the slightest rough road, banged the roof and sides. Plus having one would be a threat to anyone trying to spot you over obstacles unless it was tied down. I'd stick with the Firestiks or Wilsons...

thats the antenna i run on my base station it gets out really good its one of the best antennas for the price also on the cb forums it is the lead antenna of choice as far as votes go http://www.cbradiotalk.com/viewtopic.ph ... highlight=

I have one of those antennas. A fatboy. I also have a monkeymade. Laugh if you want, but barefoot I hit 23 miles, and with my box I hit 70.

That's also a keydown mobile. It is done only for competitions in open field and then promptly removed.

That is a vote for mobile setups... as far as base stations I prefer the MaCo antennas.. or if you can find and restore one, an old moonraker is awesome.

yea i know it is for mobile setups but that antenna(102"whip) is also a good base antenna ive been usin it for years and talk all over with it even barefoot, but the 2 most popular base antennas is the Antron 99 or the imax 2000

Never used the Imax antenna but I've given good reports to people using it. I've used an old restored moonraker before, as well as a MaCo Laser 500 and MaCo V500.

As far as mobile antenna, if you aren't worried about beaming your signal out anywhere.. just grab an antenna that can handle the power you want to put into it. The rule of thumb is a longer whip gives you better ears, but in all honesty it's more about who can talk further rather than who can hear better.

The whips will definitely take good power through them without melting, and they also give you good ears. So long as you aren't concerned about hitting things, a whip is a good thing.

yea ive heard good about the ol moonrakers as well,But yea on the kj i run a wilson lil wil for now id like to have a wilson 5000 or somthing but wife dont like the look of the lil wil much less something bigger lol,but yea where i live it is a big house made into apartments and im on the bottom so i went up and mounted a 102"whip on the side of the A frame not the highest point but the best i could do for where i live,it gets out good though runnin my barefoot cobra 29 doin 30 -35watts but i plan to put a small little box on it sometime when i get some cash, But when i lived with my parents there house is on a hill plus 2 stories and we had a 18ft antron 99 on the roof with a tuned up uniden grant with extra channels and all and a texas star on it and could talk al most anywhere.
