My Jeep was broken into Thanksgiving morning and my Kenwood HU was stolen. My door trim panels and dash were fairly mangled and I am trying to find some preventative measures for the future. Having never had an aftermarket alarm system, I was wondering if anyone has any insight. What brands, functions, etc. Have you installed any stems in your Jeep? How are the 2-way (starter) remotes? Do they work well? I am pretty frustrated with the situation, both at myself (I left the face-plate on) and the person who did this. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'm also looking for a security system for my KJ. I have been thinking about getting the Mopar EVS II system from my local dealer. Is this system good or should I look at aftermarket systems? I would like starter interrupt and door coverage. I don't think I want or need motion detection. I don't leave the windows down so the interior detection doesn't seem necessary.

I carry a lot of camera equipment with me for my business and want to have some sort of security system or theft deterent option. I do have the factory remote door lock option which is needed for the EVS II system to be installed.

Any suggestions?

I have the prestige aps-996, it is a full alarm and remote start. It has a two way transmitter that let you know wheen it's running and if it is being tampered with.

I've seen people with this one and I was impressed.

I would like it on mine, but I have two already (factory and a freebie that came as a promotion with LoJack)

Thanks for the info. Since no one had posted on this subject I went with the Mopar EVS II system and had the dealer 'attempt' to install it Saturday. I say attempt because they only installed the Sentry Key part and said the Interior Theft Sensor wouldn't work. They just didn't know how to activate the VTSS (vehicle theft securiy system) Module which activates the door opening and ITS from what I've been reading on the Jeep Forum.

I just emailed the Service Manager about how to activate the VTSS so I hope to hear from them soon and get the install completed. I understand they use a DRB-III tool for the programming and the VTSS isn't an option in the tool's menu therefore, they don't know the work around to do the programming. I will call other dealerships today and see if they have experience doing the install, if so, I will refer my dealership's service department to theirs for instruction so I don't have to pay someone else to do what my dealership should have done the first time.

Hello again. I am now interested in aftermarket alarms after all. I purchased the EVS II system because it stated that it would add door entry coverage, motion sensor and ignition lock. Well, the only thing the alarm will do is the iginition lock. The motion sensor will not work and after spending 2 days at my local dealer a numerous calls to Mopar and Chrysler I'm told my VTSS cannot be programmed to activate the VTA system. I think they are wrong based on tons of other discussions on other Jeep forums about problems with activation but all were eventually successful.

Guess I have an exception or a problem with my ECM. I haven't picked up my KJ from the Dealer yet but will in the morning. I now wish that I hadn't spent the money for the EVS II system plus installation charges. I'd like to return it but the keys have already been cut for my Libby that work the igintion lock system. All I really want is a security system that covers the opening of doors since I already have the iginition disable option. I have my own photography business with advertising on the windows and would like an intrusion alarm eventhough I never leave my camera gear inside unattended.

I appreciate your suggestions.

If it has a trigger for the dome light all the doors would be covered. I know most alarms have this(most aftermarket anyhow) If your going to go with aftermarket you may want to go ahead and add the remote start while your at it. I love having remote start.

Thanks SQ. Sweet ride you have. I will check out the system you have and maybe see if I can find something that just activates when the dome light comes on. There's a local shop that deals with factory radios and alarms and the dealer suggested that I may want to check with them. They may have an add-on to get the door entry covered.

I picked up my KJ this morning and was told that I didn't have the VTSS so the factory VTA couldn't be activated. Still don't know why mine is 'special'. There is a large section in the Jeeps Unlimited Forum about EVS install problems and most were resolved. http://www.jeepsunlimited.com/forums/ar ... 51770.html

I feel like I got ripped off by Mopar and they use false advertising for this part. The Dealer told me up front the motion sensor wouldn't work and they didn't know why it was included in the package but I didn't really want that part anyway. Oh well, I'll look around for other options or even ask someone else about this system.
