Turn Signals

I am picking up some of these lights and am going to install them in my grill and get rid of my big stock turn signals.

The will sit below the headlamps basically centered under them I think. My question is, because these are 2 wire lights and the KJ signals use 3 wires, will I be fine in just wiring/connecting the 2 "live" wires together and running the ground like normal? I heard that it will make my blinkers run faster, which I could care less, but I have no for sure answers whether not the electrical system will like it or not.

i don't know about you mike, but i'd be nervous going so centered on my blinkers without doing something like side mirror blinkers too

I may mount them in the fenders. Accordingly to NV law I need:

1. A light that activates with your parking lights, visible from the front and to the side of the vehicle. Nevada Revised Statute allows for any color from white to amber, no red facing forward.

2. A light that activates with your turn signal, and works in conjunction with your emergency flasher. Does not need to be seen from the side (many FACTORY setups are not visible from the side). I believe this one definitely has to be amber.

I believe they can be 1 light as long as both the criteria is met. But I may buy these instead and install the side marker in the fender well.

If I do mount them in the grill, since they are so small, I was also looking at maybe putting them at the bottom, outer corners of the grill.
I don't want them blocked by the bumper and possible eventual winch.

dont ya think those markers inside the fender are going to get eaten?

I saw a KJ here in town that had inpro blinkers on the mirrors, was what made me think of it when i saw your post

They would be inside the fender lining, the wires would anyway, if I mounted the turn signals in the fenders, but the running light would be exposed.

hmm, i don't know, i guess they'ed probably be alright, maybe go ahead and check and see how much replacement lenses are just for future insurance hehe

still going to need a three wire light, one ground, one for parking, and one for turns. I have some LEDs on the back side of my ARB that are 3 wire, and work with parking and turn signal. Also if the LEDs are ran in conjuction with regular lights they will not blink fast, only if you run say LEDS front and rear then you need to install one of those ...shot can't remember the name but several places sell them brain dead tonight :wink:

) has several lights that would work well, just got their new catalog last week

The 2-wire lights WILL make your blinkers go twice as fast. And you should care about that, as it's a safety/DOT violation. The cops will not like you. But, if you can find a 3wire thing, then maybe you'd be ok. As long as it's not LED. I don't think any one company has gotten the resistance right with LED's yet.

Well aren't you lucky! I could show you to 7 different forums of different cars where nobody can find an LED that actually works correctly (in a blinking bulb). Even I have gone through 3 different manufacturers for both cars, and always have the fast-blinking problem.

maybe ask uncle tom if he wired anything differently or ask what LED's he has that operate correctly?

Perhaps he knows or found something that 7 other forums failed to correct :wink:

I am going to be using these MCL-50AB to mount on the metal next to my fender's closer to the doors... will i have a problem since they are a two wire system?

theres nothin to adding resistors or caps and filters and such should you have an issue, just one of the things of doing things differently, sometimes you have to improvise a little

Radio shack usually carries a good assortment of such and at cheep prices and on a good day theres someone there who actually knows some electrical engineering

So I don't care that the cops won't like my fast blinkers, but other than that, is there a reason not to wire the 3 into the 2?

when they blink fast it's because there's not enough load on the relay, since LED's have less load than standard blinkers unless youve got a variable load blinker relay they will blink faster than they're supposed to

can be fixed by adding resistors, i don't remember 100% accurately but I think I ended up putting 8 ohm resistors on my leds on my ducati to chill the blinkers

sometimes you'll find theres enough resistance in the wiring to not make it necessary which may be what Tom has discovered with his jeep, expecially if he has tapped and reused the origional wiring and used non-leds in the stock wiring as well which helps in maintaining the load

not much more complicated than taking the OEM bulb, stickin it with a multimeter and getting a resistor thats slightly lower than your ohm reading on the oem bulb, leds just have a very low resistance which causes them to flash fast / make your jeep think the bulb is blown

depending on the bulb type it varries between 4 and 8 ohms, i had to use 8 ohm on my bike, but the blinkers had headlight style bulbs, with our jeeps turn signals it might be like a 6 ohm

We will figure it out and make it work

That's what separates us from the others
