PIC REQUEST & BRAIN STORMING FOR AMP AND SUB PLACEMENT

I have a Alpine HU and just replaced all my stock speakers will Alpine Type S speakers.. My next step is where to place an amp and sub. Where do you guys have you systems setup too?
Can an amp be mounted under the back seat?

amps need ventilation as they create alot of heat. under the seat prob not the best. over heating will cause poor performance of the amp and ppossible failure and of course worse case is a possible fire. bad thing about ventilation is exposure to theives. mine was mounted behind the rear seat with 10" sub box and to help hide it and keep storage space a rack was mounted about 8" above and all the wires ran under carpet. i fabricated mine but have seen some nice racks on forums here. replaced the door spkrs w 300 watt 6 1/2 polk momo using stock wire..if you have the skill it is worth it to run new OFC heavy speaker wire. monster or similar quality brand. i was not patient (no surpise to people that know me) enough to do this and lost sound quality. factory speakers prob wont last with an amp.

I have my amp under the rear seat. The amp I have has the best thermal management system in the biz so I have no issues. I have the 500/5 to power the system and a Stealthbox in the rear.

i will post a pic tomarrow when i get home but i know of many instillations that mount an amp under a seat and it has been fine. only problem though is lack of space so if you get a somewhat small amp it should be fine. make sure to take good measurements before you purchase if mounting under the seat is a must. air flow is #1 but having a solid ground with a bolt through the body is good practice. installs with small computer fans are common for amps that have a chance to overheat due to poor ventilation. remember if its not loud enough get a bigger sub/amp. you'll see what i mean when i post up pictures.

My sub is securely mounted in the back center, amp is mounted to the backside of the box with 1" of washers in between for ventilation... it gets warm but not too hot to touch even after long, hard use.

If you don't want it to move around, get an L-bracket and screw it into the box, then into the carpet (but not too long otherwise you will go through the carpet... there is wiring under the carpet) mine are about 1/2 inch long, as long as you don't drive like a fool, it won't move around.

Ok what about driving offroad? Will 1/2 inch hold it? Thats what worried me hittin the wires underneath.

I drive off road all the time. The Stealthbox is fiberglass and mounts through the floor with all thread and nuts. The enclosure is one with the vehicle.

i have my amp for the sub mounted to the back of the box and the amp for the front components mounted under the front seat. it is mounted with one side resting on the transmission hump and the other on a bracket i bolted to the seat frame....plenty of air circulation

If I am going to be doing anything more than mild 2-tracking - i.e. sand dunes I take it out

Imagine what will happen in an accident or even a rollover if you leave it loose in the back. :shock:

had a dual speaker box similar in size to that one when i flipped my bronco, wasn't tied down or anything, it went out the window right above my head

I drilled into the back of the passenger side rear seat and used Riv-Nuts to secure the amp with 5mm x .8 bolts. There is a layer of sheet metal underneath the carpeting on the back of the rear seats. Riv-Nuts are kind of like pop-rivets but after you set the rivet, there are threads on the inside for a bolt. If you have overheating problems, you can always purchase one of those 12 volt birdcage style cooling fans...they draw very little current but move enough air across the amp to keep it cool. Let me know if you want to see some pics.

I wanted to keep as much cargo space as possible so I made custom sub enclosures for underneath the front seats.

I've got a 12" Alpine Type X tucked in the corner behind the drivers side rear seat, i built the box to spec and aloowed for extra room behind the box for a concealed mounting location for the Alpine MRD-M1005 powering it.

I've got no problems with overheating or sound quality.. i wanted to keep my install as clean as possible so i made the box to fit snug behind the rear seat to allow for full folding and functionality of the passenger side folding seat.
