Post subject:  Interior LED Swap

Hey guys! FYI - this is my first post on here. I just recently bought an '06 Liberty for my winter vehicle. I dislike the green interior lights and would like to swap them with red LEDs. I can't find any info. on doing this. Has anyone done an interior LED swap (gauges/shifter/etc.)? I already swapped out my map, dome, and licene plate lights with red LEDs. What size/model bulbs do I need to purchase and how many? Thanks in advance for the help!

i have wanted to do this forever too... but it requires taking out the entire dash and i have been told it is not worth it.
there is a guy on here that has blue everywhere in his, but he said he bought it that way.

A friend of mine did this with his WRX. He had to to remove the gauges and such, remove the old LED's and solder in new LED's. Took him a couple days to do considering he had never done it before. To me, it's definitely too much work for such little gain.

know people in the import scene that do this. i considered it in my altima cause all the leds are orange, but did not due to the fact that it costs about $800 and that is knowing a guy that does it. dont waste your time or money unless you are related to someone that does this

I am big into the import scene. I own an '01 Acura CL (summer vehicle) that I tricked out. Of course I am going to do a mod like this to the Jeep 8)

Where are pics of the LED swap? I checked out Hood297's CarDomain profile & did not see any photos of the swap.

I did this as an update to my vette. Went from standard bulbs to LED's. (white to white). Makes enough of a difference for me. But, I'd never bother with it in the Jeep.

There's always at least one expert on any Japanese vehicle forum that's posted a how to. I did it back in the day in my 200n0 Celica GTS. You'll need Digitkey, mad solder skillz and nerves of steel. Lucky for me I have a black belt in the 12V arts. The Celica needed it because everything was orange except the radio which lit up green.

JL you should really change your title to "12V Black Belt" ... or something similar

I had a 2003 Eclipse GTS and I changed every bulb in the car to blue LED. It was time consuming and a pain. I didnt need to soldier anything (bought LEDs from this place that makes them to fit where the old bulbs did), but there was an orange film on the back of the guages that needed to be removed. After changing them all out I wasnt that happy with them in the guages because the light didnt spread as well as normal bulbs and it looked brighter in certain spots than others. i ended up putting guage overlays on. I actually changed all the AC/heater control bulbs over to LED as well...they worked better in there.

Here this will help for sure:
go to ' e-bay ' and type in the replacement bulb you are looking for
ie..lets say a headlight bulb ' 9007' then beside that type ' LED' hit enter,
that will give the equivalent bulb in the LED version.

ie.. 3157 LED<-- LED equivalent any color
ie.. 165 LED <-- LED equivalent any color
ie.. 9145 LED <-- LED equivalent any color

and so on...

now no messing around with soldering or wiring issues, direct
plug and play OEM.

The best place to buy LEDs.. the brightest of the options out there. Most reasonably priced, and the ones that are a little more expensive, are totally worth it.

They have a bunch of different kinds, and can be used for anything.
Browse through their albums and see what's possible.
Great customer service too.

Oh, and I don't work for them or anything, they're just good, lol.

These photos don't do a justice, but trust me, they're bright.

Oh and I forgot..

I used these; http://www.oznium.com/led-strip-flat-head
for under the footwell. I was going to use them for something else and didn't, so I just put them there.
(once again, these pictures don't show how bright they actually are)

They fade on and off with the interior lights and the mirror puddle lamps.

Did you glue the ones on the mirrors?

Author:  infernicus [ Fri Jan 15, 2010 4:23 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: Interior LED Swap

They come with 3M adhesive on the back. SUPER STRONG. I just cleaned the area first and stuck it on, I had the mirror off, so I put a super rubberband on it to apply pressure, and let it cure indoors overnight. It's not going anywhere.

so all you did on the puddle lights was run two wires.. ground and power...
no relay? or anything?
thinking about doing this as well!

I got LED bulbs to change out the backlighting in my Outback's gauge cluster to a cool blue/white but never got around to doing it. I traded it off for the Jeep and I still have the bulbs. I would love to use them in the Jeep some place if I can.
