Has anyone tried to install a CB in their dash. The exact location I am looking at is directly below the AC/Heater controls. I have in that space a cigarette lighter, power outlet, and a ashtray. I am getting a CObra 25 NW WX ST and was wondering if anyone has tried mounting it in that location in the actual dash. Would heat be an issue?

I don't think heat will be a problem. I assume that model CB has a front mic connection?

x2 the heating as a result of a some what confined space, and times when the heater is being ran, should be well within the operational limits of the radio and in the dead of the winter should actually make the radio function better, if it was a high-powered overdriven unit that had heatsinks i'd advise against it, but since it's a stock type unit I wouldn't worry very much at all unless you expect to have extensive transmit time without pause ie: 2-3 minute transmissions without a 30 second break

however, RFI is an issue inside the dash, i would suggest removing the piece that covers that section of the dash, temporairly wire the radio up in a close as possible way to how you plan to do it in a perm. installation, and operate the radio with the engine running to see what sort of RFI you experience with the radio

One thing you'll want to be careful of if you do install in that spot is that you do not kink the vacuum hoses that attach to the AC/Heater controls. Those control the baffles and if they are even slightly kinked they may not work properly. I know because Best Buy installed my aftermarket radio and they left some of the accessory cables hanging behind the controls. They were in just the right spot to slightly kink one of the hoses so that the "floor only" position wouldn't work.

dont scratch it before you try it, there's several locations in the interior that are freaked with RFI, theres a section around the console that does it too, just one of those things you have to mess around and try

there's been several that have mounted in/around the dash that did it with no ill effects

was more or less a warning not to go cutting holes in stuff before you test it ;)

Dont they make some kind of remote screen or something so you can install it under your seat and put the screen on your dash?

headliner?

under the seat, beside the seat

or fit it between the passenger seat and the console, not in the open but actually between the seat and the console

you're restricted by the length of the mic cable, and whether or not you want to be able to change the channel or adjust it once in motion

its a really cheap one, just bought for road trips with friends, easier than using a cell phone, and CB was required for off road trails, had it installed in my pick up truck before but i really cant find a nice spot to mount it in the Jeep, its a Cobra 19 Ultra III

Mine (large chassis galaxy) is attached to the console on the passenger side
there's a spot with 1/2" leeway that a large chassis can be attached that will neither hit the glove box when it's open, nor interfere with the pass. seat being moved all the way up

That is a nice small unit. about the same size as the RS unit I have. Is the speaker on the bottom?

I installed mine right next to the passenger seat on the center console using a piece of sheetmetal to hang it from the top, That location has worked very well for me. I'll take a picture when I get home.

Mine is quite a bit farther up the console towards the dash, prevents interference with seat movement, access to seat belt etc, there's about two inches of exposed power wire before it snakes up into the dash, coax used to go out the rear up the inside of the body panel, out under the weather stripping and to the roof
