Ok! So here's the deal:

I have an infinity 6020CS Component system (6.5" woofer, crossover, and 1" tweeter) and I have an 02 KJ with the factory infinity system - stock headunit, amps, etc other than the sub which isn't related to the issue at hand =)

The 6020CS is the lowest RMS power 2 ohm component I could find easily, and I plan to use them as drop-in replacements for the factory infinity speakers, AKA I'm keeping the factory amps, wiring, etc.

I Just started worrying about what I'm going to do to retain the factory amps. I believe they can be separated from the factory speakers in the doors, but what then??? If the amps come off, which I hope they do, what are some solutions people have used to mount them once the factory woofers are gone? I have searched and cant even find confirmation that the factory amp/crossover combo can be separated, or if anyone has ever used it to run aftermarket components.

Also I plan on leaving out the new crossover. I don't see how it will be useful in this setup...

you should be able cut the existing wires and crimp on some female terminals then plug it in for both the speaker and tweet. i don't know about the 2 ohm idea. should see if the factory amp is 2 ohm stable if not stuff is going to blow.

Factory infinity system runs at 2ohm. 2007+ aftermarket infinity speakers are 2ohm thus a perfect candidate for drop-in replacements if you do not wish to delete the factory amps.

Sounds awesome, btw. I have to turn the treble way down as the tweeters started overpowering my sub =D

The Xover should have an adjustment on it to help with that. Plus if you used the stock placement on the tweets your imaging is probably all out of whack. Other than that I hear the reference is a pretty decent set of comps how do you like it so far?

I'm not using the infinity xover as the factory amp does all of that, plus there is a fat capacitor in-line to the tweeter. The staging is decent. By that I mean the highs are up high on the dash and the mid bass is in the door like stock. Given, the jeep dash is a little short and blunt - putting the drivers side too close to be "good staging" but there are really not a lot of options... it's as far away as it can be on the dash. I also made sure the tweets were as far outwards towards the doors as possible (within the factory hole) and it's just enough to get the left channel in your left ear. Either way it's only at an arms length though so it's far from perfect.

As for the sound, it's amazing. I'm very impressed. As I said I went with the references because I didn't want to setup another amplifier. They sound excellent on the factory amp (which I believe are 66w x2 each... I doubt it's x3) They absolutely blow the factory infinity system out of the water. In fact they are leaps and bounds clearer than any 2 or 3 way speaker I've ever bought... the best of which was probably Alpine Type R's. I would even go as far as to say they are better than the 2008 Pioneer D series components. I heard them on a similar factory-powered setup and they came off loud but very overpowering in the mid range... I guess that's a tuning issue but I don't really like heavy mids.

So yes, VERY HAPPY =) and I would recommend them for anyone looking for a cheap replacement for blown factory speakers. Those re-foam kits are expensive for what they are. I think about $40? For $60 more you can get a real upgrade, and I don't think the factory amp has a chance of ever blowing these.

Ok so I've been reading up the factory sound system on L.O.S.T. and not sure I fully understand and have read several post arguing both for and against.

I want to keep the factory system for the time being but upgrade to aftermarket speakers.

Is this possible? Can I mount the factory amp in the door and hook it up to upgraded speakers?

If so what's the best place to mount it?

I bought 4 ohm speakers...will these work or do I need to find 2 ohm?

Any help is greatly appreciated!!!
