Hey Guys and Gals, I'm having trouble tuning my CB antenna. I have this
model of CB
with a 3 ft firestik II antenna.
I still am getting over 3.0 swr readings and dont know what to do to get it lower. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanx Have you tried tuning it without the spring connected? I know you'll obviously want a spring, but see if it tunes better without it, and if so, replace the spring with a different one. Is the ground good? Try running a temporary ground wire from the mount to the frame and see if it improves anything. Also, make sure all the doors are closed when you tune it so that it's in the same condition it will be when it is operating. |

I agree on running a seperate ground,I had too but my mount is differant,still try it it just may help just make sure it's bare metal |

I'd be willin to bet that is grounded goot. Alot of us TEXAS boys have our antennas mounted like that with excellent results. I think you need a longer antenna. A short antenna close to the body will not get out as goot. |

Important that the coax cable end has the "lip' facing into the mount(it's very slight so look close). This keeps the center conductor from grounding out on the mount. Also make sure that there is the nylon washer inbetween the mount and the antenna. Looks like the sequence of the bolt / nylon washer / mount is wrong (picture is alittle far away but it looks like you have the nylon washer in the wrong place)

Well I think I got it worked out. I'm not getting readings in the red anymore, had to change coax cable. Still says its electrically short so still have to tune a little more. Thanx for all ideas. |
