I went to the Philadelphia Flower Show today with my wife and took the CRD on the 80 mile (40 each way) trip. Things were going well, got 28 MPG on the way up, found a parking spot very quick and wife is happy. 8) Going home was smooth and got to Delaware quick and was on I95 when I got over to the lane for my exit. After about 1/4 mile the traffic decided to suddenly stop and then I looked in the mirror. The girl in her toy otta, chatting on her cell phone rammed me pretty hard.

I expected to get out and find lots of damage and I did. It was all to her car. I made it a point to keep my trailer hitch ball on and that saved the CRD from lots of damage. It looks like that the ball end of the hitch is bent down slightly. Her bumper and grill is destroyed and have small dent and scratches on her hood. The police gave her a ticket for not paying attention. I have pics of the jeep but need to figure how to post them.

That happened to my 02, the woman was driving a Taurus. hers was hauled off on a flatbed. My rear gate was pushed in slightly. My draw bar saved me from more extensive damage also. I since trade for my CRD.

They said the bolt holes for the hitch were pulled down (don't know how else to describe) and the hitch had to be replaced. I had some concerns bout the strength of the points the hitch mounted to after that. It seemed to be ok when I got it back as we towed the boat upto MN for Walleye opening season. I got stuck paying the warranty deductable for the timing chain tensioner that was damaged by the impact because the V6 started making wierd noises at idle. They said the accident didn't cause it. What a coincidence!!!! After she hit it I had a lot of road noise from around the door seal. The passenger side front door had to be realigned.

Anyway sorry to hear about your bad luck.

Sorry you had the experience, but glad no one was injured.

I'd have the dealer have a look at it anyway, just in case.

Thanks, I just took to my shop and dont see anthing bent, I blocked the front wheels and hooking on the large nut on the bottom of the ball, I jacked up the rear end til the rear tire were six inches off the ground. The ball is a little higher as if it was twisted down a little. Try this link, maybe the pics will show. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2285016

if you cause an acident while talking on a cell phone without a hands free devise then you should loose your license for 30 days. There is no excuse to drive and talk while not using a hands free device.

IMHO, there's no excuse for driving and talking on the phone, PERIOD, unless it's a bona fide emergency. And even in that case, a hands free should be required. Mine stays turned off while driving, and the greeting for my voice mail box says as much.

I know in Massachusetts (Where I drive the most) they did pass a law requiring handsfree while driving. Not that anyone is doing it, but at least its a step in the right direction.

I don't talk on a cell phone while driving but it seems that everyone else does. Sometimes I think that my wife wait til she is driving to make a call. When she calls me like that I tell her to hang up the phone and call me later. Companies used to call them "CAR PHONES" until it became politically incorrect to do so. Car companies are no better in that respect.

We don't use it but my wife's Cadillac has a phone built into it with it's own phone number through on-star satellite. Yes it's hands free but when I say 3 it says 5, what a piece of crap. How can you pay attention to the road when you trying train the stupid thing your voice, the abc and numbers. That's the kind of electronic to take out on a boat and deep six it. Phones don't belong in the car at all. The police should ticket anyone driving and talking on a phone weather it's hands free or not. Driving these days require 100% of your attention.

Several studies have shown that the problem is being on the cell phone and not whether its hands free or not. Studies show, that the rate of accidents caused by cell phone use is not much different whether its hands free or not.

What I dont understand is that in a world of constant distraction, why people still feel the need to drive 1 car length from you rear bumper? If I get a call on the cell phone that I have to take, I will get over into the slow lane and actually keep a large distance between me and the other guy. Thats not to say that normally I dont keep my distance because I do, I'm the guy that usually leaves enough space between the guy in front of me that the guy behind me thinks its an invitation to go around me and take up that space.

Cell phone or not, alot of these "accidents" can be prevented by giving yourself a larger margin or error. (needed in today's world) I'm not sure if these people are stupid, or if they just dont care.

Sorry about your accident BlackLibertyCRD. Glad to hear it looks okay. I don't know if you have or not, but make sure you and your wife get yourselves checked out by a doctor. I know it might feel like nothing is wrong, but horrible neck and back pain can appear years down the road because of accidents like that.

I see that you already have a cardomain account. To post your pict (assuming you still want to) you just open one of the images in your cardomain account, right click on it, hit "Properties." A box will pop up, go all the way down and click on "properties." You should see another box pop up, highlight the address value (everything including "http" all the way to the end) and hit "copy."

Come back to the LOST posting, type ".

As far as the cell phone thing goes.....naaa, better not climb up on THAT soap box. I'll just say I vote for a serious restructuring of the licensing system in this country.

I've been through this twice with two different Libby's. You probably hurt the Libby more taking it to a flower show than getting rear ended did. In all fairness, you need to take it to a monster truck show or something now. :-)

This girl wasn't tailgating me, she just wasn't paying attention. When she relised that traffic had stopped it was to late. About cell phone use, some people can't walk and chew gum at the same time. :-)r I just had to say that for the same applies to driving and talking on the phone.

It worked! Good job BlackLibertyCRD! That black looks awesome on the Liberty! 8)

You might want to change the image you're using for your avatar though. Crop it closer to the Jeep and make it 150 pixels wide max. In the hopes that it helps you out, I cropped it for you and put it on my Photobucket site (so the cardomain name isn't on the pict). If you want to use it, download this pict and put it on your cardomain site. Let me know when you get it (if you want it), and then I'll pull it off my photobucket site.

Oh, and Boxhead...you almost killed me! :-)r I'm still gasping for breath! That was FUNNY!

You know, sometimes we have to make the wife happy so we can go to the other shows without much complaints. When she said she like to go, I knew I had to go and better like it.

Wow thanks again, Now the avatar is correct. Yes this black CRD was all shined up and sitting on the showroom floor. I road tested a blue one and the salesman thought he sending me home in it. I told him I want the CRD but I want the Black one. Then I watch them move two other cars to get it out. A little more tint on the front windows and sun strip on the windshield will make it perfect for me. :D

I've been there too. "Yes sweetie, I really DO want to drive to DC to shop in Tysons Corner on the weekend before Christmas. And, yes, I'd really love to hit a wedding show in Hampton too." UmmmmHMMmmmm. Fun stuff! But she's promised to go to a hockey game with me, so it's alllll good.
