Any recommendations on what code reader to purchase for the CRD 2006 model?

All of my research has not yielded a for sure answer, especially for that price. I ended up paying the dealer 50 bucks to read mine. I think SirSam in Colorado has one (Starscan) if you are ever in his area. Good luck and if you DO decide it's worth it, let us know!

(I tried various auto part stores to test theirs to see if I could find a model that worked with NO success)

I know this is an old topic, but I figured I'd bring it back to life, briefly, at least...

I've had great success with my ScanGauge II, pulling codes off of my 06- as a matter of fact, it's the only thing I've been able to use to pull codes off the Libby. The Autozone/Advanced/etc scanners would not work at all. However, there was a modification I had to do to it, in order to make it work...On the settings on the Scan Gauge II, I had to manually change the mode from auto or VPW, which I believe was what it tried to default to when plugged into the OBDII port on the Libby, to ISO. Once it changes to ISO mode, I've been successful at pulling the present codes and pending codes off the vehicle. Like everyone else, I've been unable to use the ScanGauge II for monitoring, as it will shut itself off after 5-20 minutes, but it at least can pull codes off the vehicle.

I Bought a Innova scanner number 32603. It does the engine, the ABS and SRS (airbags) It also acts as a data logger for upload to the computer. All this for 350 dollars Canadian plus tax at napa.
Great little unit.

I bought a Android tablet with Bluetooth, the TorquePro app, and a OBD-Bluetooth adaptor for about $200.

Launch's CRP123 and CRP129 will read most vehicles ABS,SRS,engine codes, and trans codes.I had the CRP123 but traded it in for the CRD129 which is a much better unit and does more, very compact.Saves from having to plug in the big scanner to pull codes, erase codes, and see basic PID's.The CRP129 can also re-set electronic parking brakes(Subaru VW owners) and has all the oil reset info.
