Ever since the jeep was in the shop, it has experienced periodic bouts of jerky shifts around 35 mph. It would come and go....sometimes very jerky. It didn't do that before it was worked on.

Software bug in TSB 18-009-06 is causing inconsistant control of the lock-up clutch @ 35 mph. Jeep is well aware of this and supposidly has it fixed in TSB 18-023-06 (and F31 recall patch).

Are these all 2005s that are having these leaks? If not, how many of these are 2006s? I notice a lot of you don't have your jeep info in your signature.

On the jerky 35mph shifting, I can confirm that this was fixed when I took my 2006 in for the F31 recall and I also had them perform the TSB. The shudder is gone as well.

My guess is you just misread the dipstick the first time. I will remind you that the the fluid level is checked in park and hot,. There are two (2) sets of holes and the holes closest to bottom should not be used. Also when you add the fluid and it shows full, drive it around the block and then check again. For some reason the Jeep will not show proper chenge level till driven a short distance, it may just need the RPM's up to 2000 for a minute or two.

The engine oil might be leaking out of CAC at the FCV or EGR and finding its way back along the engine and down.

My first guess was the CCV for me, cause I did see oil leaking from around the edges. I tooke the CCV off and I noticed the O-Ring was trashed, like when the tech replaced the CCV he screwed up the o-ring. Its only like 2 bucks i think, the dealer should be able to find the part no..

Well the dealer says they found my leak! They put some die in the oil that can only be seen with a UV light. And looks like they traced down it to the Valve cover gasket! So they say 1 day for the part and 2 days for repair. Hopefully now I will not be leaving puddles whereever i go.

So basically they are getting a new pair of DEPENDS for you LIBBY so it does not leave any puddles

Great news that this was not something more catastrophic and costly!

LOL..

Hopefully this will help out a few others that are having the same issue. Only took 2 dealers to figure out. Funny though, last dealer tech had to call Star for everything. The new dealer tech figured it all out on his own. Shows ya experience pays.

If it's the cam-cover gasket that's leaking, I sure hope you have a dealer that's well-trained in the workings of the engine. There is no valve-cover per se on the CRD engines - the cams are contained in the cover which bolts down on the very top, meaning they have to re-time the engine and pull the whole front of the engine down in order to change that gasket.

I'd ask for them to show me on the lift that it's exactly coming from there. In my experience very rarely have I ever seen those leak and even if they do, it's nothing like the pictures show... I'd venture a guess that's it's farther down the motor, unless for some reason that gasket really went to heck...

Well, Ill admit it looks like its further down the engine at first glance, but if you look close and good its definatly coming from up top by the "Cam Cover" the die proved it. Its just working its way back down the engine. Its been leaking for quite some time from the amount of oil that was found, probably now theres enough to actually notice and cause concern. Im assuming hes saying Valve Cover because thats what most people know. Plus they are saying 2 full days to tear it down and fix it, so it seemed a bit more than just a valve cover to me. Seemed kinda odd to me that a valve cover would take that long. But now I know theres a bit more to it thanks to MrMopar. Illl ask them exactly it is that they are replacing, or it will show in the service writeup to.. Ill see if he will show me the old gasket just for kicks.

Well, it's been a while since I reported on my oil leak. I haven't been able to get the Jeep to the dealer until just today. I took it home to my hometown to have the ball joint recall done while I was visiting family. It's a great small-town dealer. the showroom is large enough to house one car and a couple of chairs for visitors. Kind of a funny when you compare them to these mega dealerships here in the city.

While the Jeep was on the lift, they checked on the oil leak. The leak is definitely coming from the main seal...so, I guess I'll make an appointment sometime in the near future to have it in for a few days.

No mention from them of the F37 recall work that I have not had done. Lord knows I wasn't going to ask for it. My transmission is well-behaved these days and working properly. Of course now that I've said that, it will start bucking and kicking on me. ....forget I mentioned it.

I had the same leak on mine, rear main replaced when they did the F37. Approx 12000 miles, no oil usage since then.

Keep an eye on the point the engine dipstick tube goes into the block. I had that replaced last time I was in.
