It is funny that my old Cummins friends are complaining about ULSD giving them worse mileage but I have not noticed any change, My Jeep runs better though. What did you change to get better mileage this time?

Didn't change anything. It has been getting better milage lately, but this is the first time I got a long highway run on it. I will have an even better opportunity when I drive from Laurel, MD to St. Augustine, FL this coming Friday. I plan to start a thread to keep track of my milage down and back.

The BP ULSD that I have been using is a bright neon green color. I found out when I bled the air from the system.

I noticed over at www.mopar-parts-dealer.com that there is a 3.55 ratio gear set for the front and rear differentials. For those of us that have low mileage, has anyone considered changing out the 3.73 for the 3.55 gear set to improve mileage? Would any software changes need to be made or just changing out the speedometer gear on the transmission?

You would have to reflash for the speedometer & odometer. Not sure how deep into the software this occurrs but usually the final drive ratio and tire rev/mile are a declared parameters in the ECM software. Changing to a 3.55 would drop your highway crusing @ 100 RPM, was looking for a little larger bump (200-300 RPM) which would take a 3.33 or 3.21 to get it done. Gut hunch is the transmission, torque converter, weak lock-up clutch, and/or differentials would show problems with the extra torque stress. The 3.73 we have now is likely an engineered compromise which would also factor in emissions contraints.
