Sell your car privately. I got 2500 over the BEST offer from a dealer for my Jetta TDI, with 150k miles on it, and that best offer was from a dealer that didn't really want to negotiate on the selling price of the CRD.

I typically average 24 mpg with mixed city/hwy mileage. The mpg definitely decreases in the winter though...especially when the engine's cold. Additionally, I notice that my roof rack easily shaves off 3 mpg from my average.
