Never really found a need for a blocker even down to -20 deg F. Went my engine gets cold, the viscous heater kicks in and does a good thing of keeping things warm.

Without, the viscous heater will run longer, it will take longer to heat up, you will drop below optimum temperature faster and for longer when stood at traffic lights etc. This will all have an impact on fuel economy. You may not "need" a blocker but it might be desirable at these temperatures.

Wow...I am up in the mountains all winter and don't see any real change in temp now that i have a real thermostat. IN LINE. The OEM Stat is junk. I would not want to have a blocker installed in town driving. In my 1971 CJ i needed one to keep any heat inside. But new modern? You don't need them. That's why they are hard to find.

When it gets below 10, in city drive, the temp never gets to half for me, and that happened also right after I had a brand new thermostat. I was thinking also to use a diamond plate, made from thin aluminum, that could be easily mounted over the front grille, with 4-6 small screws. I'll see if I have time to get into it...

Both my original and replacement OE thermostats cause the temperature to drop significantly when ambient is below about -10°C combined with city driving or stopping at lights etc. This is normal behaviour for the design of this sytem.

I'm not going to pass judgement on the inline mod but if you don't see a temperature drop with it this simply suggests that your stat is able to close more fully and/or you have less bypass than the original design. What are the potential drawbacks of this? I don't know, which is why I haven't done the mod myself.

A crazy carpet with some tie wraps is cheap and easy, plus they come in red, blue and black to match your vehicle 8)
