replace glow plug relay $20-+,and I replaced the injector o-rings which gave me a free look at the injectors after 40K on WVO,and they were super nice ,which is a good thing for the piece of mind of wvo (i only put 10K on it with wvo, the other was previous owner now serving in Iraq).Just remember there are three different headgaskets(different thickness) your VIN and/or engine code will be needed when ordering.I know this seem like alot of work extra, but you save on the labor end and don't have to tear into that engine for another 100K for maintance .It could be alot worse as I re[placed my turbo at the same time.........ouch.Just remember that engine only takes 6.4 quarts, and you will save any turbo worries.........................H

I think the injectors are the least(meaning cheapest) of your worries running wvo.

Years ago a company (sorry I can't remember who) used bevel gears and a drive shaft to the overhead cam.

The ~1200 ci Continental V12 SOHC twin-turbo air-cooled diesel used
special drive shafts to turn the cams.

Yeah, I know, that engine is pretty far out there, but its an example.

These were in every M60 class tank chassis I worked on.

The basic operation of diesel engines were designed to run on peanut or vegetable oils since 1903.So in theory YOUR causing more damage running ULSD than I am running a prperly designed WVO system or Bio-diesel.Diesel fuel was designed so BIG OIL could make money of of a man (Rudolph Diesel) that they paid to have killed. The original DIESEL fuel was on the bottom of the scale of excepted lubtricity, add later fumbling of Low sulpher diesel (500 ppm),and then ULSD (15 ppm) and now you see the need for all of the additives just to keep your beloved Diesel ticking.Ask any experieced diesel mechanic what does in Injection Pumps, and they will tell you inferior fuel...........H

Diesel is sourced from petroleum because crop output could not possibly sustain the world's total consumption rate of diesel engine fuel.

I bet you're fun at dinner parties, eh? :)

It takes intelligence to conspire (making a jab at Washington DC) and back in those days the petroleum industry was going after the Whale Oil industry, not the peanut industry. The Petrolium Industry could Out Drill what the Whale Oil industry could Harpoon. So the Whale Oil industry withered along with the Corset Stay Industry and Viagra killed the Whale Oil Industry off for good. One last gasp for Whale Oil was in some of the early versions of Dextron ATF, now Synthetics work better.

Personally I have no Political Agenda on the source my Diesel Fuel comes from (as long as it does not come from Chavez), all I want is the best, be it Dino, Bio, Algae, Processed Land Fill Garbage, Lipo Extract, or what ever.

I'm not the one that has replaced a turbo already. How many miles between oil changes?

I bought this crd with 80K on the clock, she now has 90K.Needless to say I have done more maintence to this is 10 months then was done by original owner(first owner) in the two years it was a company lease.I can imagine that all the suit wearing jerks @ that firm allowed the turbo to cool down like it was their own personal rig  .The second owner converted it @ 51K and used this project as a project for engineering degree @ MIT,The craftsmanship is flawless and had the whole engineering wing @ MIT at his disposal.I have documented oil changes @ 3500-4000 miles from day one all with mobil 1.The lack of cool down time coupled with oil being filled to full for 80K is what did in the turbo.Chrysler dropped the ball not me,should have been marked to 6.4 quarts when it left the factory.Given the fact this was a major FUBAR, I think you will be surprised how many others turbos will go when they get to 90-100k miles,if they too filled to full, unknowingly causing turbo to choke on all th EXTRA oil fumes thrown down its throat.WVO or BIO has nothing to do with chrysler group trying to insure repeat sales of a $1000 dollar turbo. How many other are @ 90K? Notice power loss, and loud turbo dumps yet?Give it time.................and mileage..........H

Vegi.

When I first got my new 06 I noticed the large amound of blowby when the oil cap was off when it was running. Now at 24k most of the blowby os gone along with the oil vapor getting all over the place

Why so few miles between changes? Severe service oil changes are recommended @6k. So your not supporting big oil by running wvo and then changing your oil at half the severe mileage recomendation?

I would certainly hope that someone who was running WVO in their rig would not let the oil go past 4k. Bad things can happen. There was a guy trying to sell a CRD a couple of years ago which had been converted to WVO by Golden Fuel Systems. The motor had been ruined by letting the oil go too far between changes and the poly had gumed up the oil galleys.

Give cosmo a cigar.Yes I do pay the piper a little more(oil changes),but atleast its synthetic or semi-synthetic.And yes that GFS crd was a pos.I consider that a botch job at best.My other rig has a 4K dollar fully automated V-3 vegistroke(2000 ford excursion with a 7.3),also 3500-4000 miles per change.I have 30K miles on that kit now, without a hitch.

If you are changing your oil every 3k-4k, there is really not much benefit gained by using synthetic. A good dino lube will give equally good service up to that mileage.

For those who possibly don't know why oil should be changed more often in a veg powered engine(onthehunt :D ), here is why. As small amounts of veg oil work past the rings, it accumulates in the pan until it reaches a critical level. As it is exposed to heat and Oxygen, it polymerizes into a gelatin like material. Just like Jello, as long as the engine is kept warm the oil stays fluid, but if it sits overnight it will congeal. When the ecoconscious diesel owner starts his rig in the morning, he has no lubrication. Of course the engine does not like this, and so shows it's dislike by seizing up.

Whether the oil is synthetic or not, has no bearing on the polymerization of fat contaminated oil. The main advantage of synthetic is it's resistance to thermal and chemical breakdown, so a veg user might as well put Dino in the pan instead of the much more costly long life oil. The TBN and lubricity of modern dino juice should still be well within normal limits at 4k miles, and the silica and wear metals are also much less than in synthetic which is changed at 12k miles.

All others can do as they see fit. This is just what I have done in my Veg conversions, with good success.

When I lived further south, I had an 85 Ford which I had converted with my own system. Two tank with frybrid valves x3, recirc loop, HIH, custom coolant heated prefilter, industrial HVAC high efficiency heat exchanger, truflo pump (I know I cheaped out here). There was no need for a heated fuel pickup down there. I designed and helped install three systems for my partner's two F-250s, and his freight truck. The two Powerstrokes had check valve systems, deadheaded into the fuel galleys (we had to undo the dead head "fixes" which had been installed), Heated intank pickup, HIH, spin on goldenrod filter inside a custom removable heated jacketed HVAC heat exchanger and Chinese Air Dog style auxiliary pump. On his Isuzu freight truck We did a single tank setup with heated pickup, HIH, BIG HVAC heat exchanger, and 110V plug in tank pad and injector heat tape similar to vegtherm. Since it was used for long hauls only, there was not a huge concern about unheated startups, since it was always plugged in before ignition.

When I lived down there, we had easy access to several hundred gallons of high quality peanut and olive oil every month. Up here in northern Wisconsin I don't mess with Veg oil very much. It is just too cold to deal with most of the year, and I don't have a heated garage or building for storage and filtering. When I still lived down south, I took several cross country trips and up to Canada during the summer on Veg blend during the summer. For around town stuff I mostly used home brew Biodiesel.

I now use a WMO 25% blend during the warm months in my CRD and about 90% in my Cummins. I have an uncompleted back yard refinery which I would like to have up and running by winter, so I can run my own D2. Last year I made a few runs from a small prototype back yard refinery, and the fuel was very high quality, but VERY smelly.

I have built a jetta 1985 .1.6T with frybrid style setup,my 2000 Excursion V3 vegistroke was done by a friend ( i did the leg work),My crd was done as MIT project by a friend now serving over seas....again,and I am building my 1977 porsche 924 with a kubota 3 cyc diesel and two transmissions.I hope to grease the 924 and get 100 MPG.I have a dieselcraft oc-50 centrifuge for cleaning oil,and my home runs on a AG solution B-150 multifuel boiler(WVO,WMO,BIO,ATF,and ofcourse d1,d2,and kero),but I only run bio and WVO thru it..............good to see another greaser on here as I was feeling alone..............H

Oh yeah. I forgot about my old 85 Jetta. I sold it before moving up here. I ran a 50/50 WVO blend in it and it loved it. It was a commuter car and had no oil heat. When the temp got into the 20s I would give it a shot of Ether before cranking. Never had any trouble from it. The car was a real basket case inside. The interior was trashed and all the electronics were cobbled up (it and a home light switch to turn the fan on, and I had to bang on the console to get the lights to function). The body was straight and the engine ran like a top though. Man I miss that old $400 POS.

Here is a cool setup which I would like to try someday when I'm rich and famous. http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthread.p ... 571-3.html

When I was running WVO I converted an old 35 disk cream separator to centrifuge the oil. It worked really well for polishing the oil but it was a bear to breakdown for cleanup.

If you were me and had to connect a kubota trans to the porsche trans(in the rear)what material would you use to replace the"flex tube" drive shaft with? This is the final equation in my design and I am torn between aircraft aluminum and titanium...............I need flex and strength.

I don't know. Its not like you have a ton of torque comming out of the kubota engine. I think that you would spend more money on a titanium flex tube, than you would ever save in fuel with the little engine. Why are you using two transmissions?

...titanium will probably have less flex. It is also very susceptible to hydrogen embrittlement, though this may less problem for a car than for a jet...the main reason aircraft structures are generally aluminum instead of titanium.

This sounds like a really cool project.

Umm...no. The main reason that the whole airframe and skin of most aircraft aren't made of titanium is weight and coshttp://www.titanium.com/titanium/aerospac.cfmt. Niether aircraft nor automobiles see a lot of H2 during their lifetimes, unless they are fuel cell powered.
