The shop I suggested put in a customer-supplied ENGINE for me, but it may have been that I am a long-time customer and went in with my eyes open - I wasn't asked to sign anything about a warranty, but I also said that I wasn't asking them for one. Just that I wanted the truck to drive out under its own power, and I knew that they would do a good job for me no matter what. That is one BIG benefit of finding an honest shop that isn't a national chain - You don't get all the "we won't do that" lawyer nonsense from an independent shop.

They did do a great job for me, and it did move under its own power. It wasn't cheap either, but I wanted FIXED, and the price was VERY fair for the work. They could have asked for twice the labor amount that they did. I don't know how they would be about customer parts for another person... But on this vehicle, it wouldn't hurt to ask them. If you brought in all the parts yourself, I'm sure they would at least discuss doing the labor on the CRD, especially since they have now been in that engine quite deeply. The timing job shouldn't be hard anymore for them.

I just did the TB and the Dealer used all the supplied Mopar parts without question. They even used the oil I supplied and wrote a note to the tech to use my oil only if needed. Although I am now having a few issues with turbo lag and black smoke coming from the exaust when starting from a stop, the CRD runs fine. The dealer is working with me to get these items resolved. The reason I did not do this myself is time and lack of the special tool I needed. Diffs, transfer and u-joints are next on the list to do.
