Hmmm...I have a couple vehicles over the years that the thermostat wasn't right at the block but instead at the rad. I never had a overheating issue that damaged anything from it. I do however fondly recall that changing the T Stats on those vehicles was a pleasure.

Count me in, I'm the next to try this and I'm 3 days into it and it works great. This thing has heat like a beast now! I should have tried this sooner. :dizzy:

Count me in too - I did this last weekend. The operating temperature was one tick above the quarter mark, and now it is pointing straight up. I got a 192 thermostat for a small block chevy that fits perfectly in the housing. I did not drill any holes as there is a bleed valve already on it.

Last fall I installed my new OEM thermostat and saw the same results  But in a short time I was back to the "normal" one tick below halfway 176f

Yeah guys mine is still doing just fine. This is the way to go in my opinion, that is if you don't want to spend alot of money and wait on the dealer to boot.

Tennessee, What temp thermostat are you using in the housing?

Mine has been running about a needle width on the warm side of the middle tick mark between 1/4 and 1/2. The only time i can get it up passed that is with a load (18ft car trailer) And then it will hang just about a needle width under the 1/2 mark.

My main concern with this is that, since the stocker is either failed or failing, that for some reason it would end up sticking shut. Have any of you tried to pull it off and "gut" it out before installing the inline? Now i'm saying this without ever seen how they work, or even really looking at a picture of the stock one. I just tried to order one last night and was told it was on back order for an unknown length of time. I hate the idea of spending 130.00 on one that if 1 year from now does it again i'll be spending another 100 bucks, not to mention all of this for a cooler t-stat than i beleive should be in it. My powerstroke runs a high 190's and the upgrade that international puts in their trucks are 203's. I may just order this and give it a wirl.

Edit- Has anyone towed using the inline t-stat along with the stock t-stat in place? I was wondering how much restriction this would add to flow and make it run hotter than before.

I used a 195 GM unit. No towing with mine but alot of mountain pulling with no problems.

Mine's being shipped from AMAZON, can you tell me what you did for hose clamps, just generic or OEM?

dumb question--or maybe NOT so dumb.........
What is the direction of coolant flow ? From cylinder block to thermostat to radiator...or the reverse....radiator to thermostat to block ? What would be the correct orientation of the in-line thermostat---thermostat element towards the block or towards the radiator?

If there is a way to screw this up, I'm sure I can find it !!

The coolant flow is from block to thermostat out to the radiator.

I used the oem on the goose neck and radiator and hardware store clamps on each side of the new thermostat housing. I just did this because I had them on hand. I'd rather use oem but haven't gotten around to buying them yet. The genaric ones work just fine though.

Got my housing today, have to pick up the actual thermostat now.

Seems like the rubber seal is too small, did any one have problems sealing with this?

the rubber gasket in the housing is only to hold the thermostat in place inside the housing. you will need the use thread sealant on the treads of the housing to make it seal properly. good luck, had mine done for 7000 now and no problems

Is anyone planning on towing in HOT weather with an inline thermostat? If so, please post your findings. My only concern with this mod is flow restriction at 100% system cooling capacity.
