My solution at the time was: In order to hold some speed and get the temperatures under control, I found I had to drop back to 4th gear (locked up) and hold engine rpm in that gear range - this allowed EGT to drop back to around 900F, and engine coolant temp dropped back to normal or just at halfway mark.

It's not a tune problem and your solution to towing problem is common sense.

I have been happy with all 3 of your tunes, how ever the Hot tune will give me a LHM on occasions if I hammer it WOT up a steep grade due to the stock fuel system not being able to supply enough fuel. It gets the "Large fuel leak" error. But besides that I like the low end torque the Hot tune gives at all driving ranges, coupled with the TCM tune it pulls like a tank.

Love it, no problems since getting the Eco-tune. Can't wait to get the full torque Eco-tune as soon as I ditch the weak torque converter. If it wasn't for you, I would be driving something else by now. But now, I'm in it for the long haul. I hope you are around for a long time for support! 300,000 mile club anyone?

I got an eco tune right after I bought the Jeep. It cleared up a fault code and increased overall driveability. It has been the best mod I've made. Also went with a TCM tune this year. It seems to be saving a few more miles per gallon.

Overall, very pleased.

We have put about 13K miles on the tunes and TCM with no real issues. My wife would like to see the transmission downshift a little sooner when climbing steep hills, but I think that is just a matter of driving style. I followed her in it yesterday; each time she took off (uphill) the Libby would belch a bit of black smoke that cleared up quickly. She is a bit aggressive with the throttle. I don't dare load the hot tune for her!

Would still like to see what you can do for the TDI, but I'm not sure how to send you the stock tune without messing up the CRD stuff.

I agree I would also like the TCM to be set to shift a little later. I do realize that this would mean a slight decrease in fuel economy but I think it would be worth it. I also get the shudder sometimes and I am looking at sending it back and starting over as the previous owner had the flash done to both the ECM and TCM and i would like to feel the difference between stock and Flashed. I cant complain about Horsepower, Torque, or fuel mileage (27-29)

Happy with the GDE eco tune for my 06. Not great mileage, maybe improved 1 MPG, it does seem a bit peppier than I remember it pretune. It absolutely does two things: minimize the EGR without the CEL and it is amazing how clean the oil stays. In fact I have removed my PROVENT as I figured it might cause an issue for a smog test. Used to be just going around the block after an oil change and the oil was black. Now its many hundreds of miles before it gets dirty and the oil is still cleaner than it used to be at equivalent miles. Good people to deal with, wish they were out in CA for performing hands on repairs/improvements. The upgrade to the tune for the GPs went easy.

I can understand undoing the EHM for smog tests (visual checks anyway) but the Provent mod is good all around. The less oil that is being forced into the intake the better.

Very happy with it. However about once a week, I get a CEL light on first startup. If I shut the truck off and restart, the CEL is gone until the next week. Haven't pulled the codes because it runs fine, and am not sure if that is related to the ECO tune or not.

Been very happy with mine, I've only had it two weeks.

I doubt it's related to the tune, but I have had 3 random downshifts. Is anyone else seeing this?
While doing 70 with the CC on, it will suddenly drop to second or third. I wasn't towing or speeding up or slowing down.

Do you have a ScanGauge connected, or any other type of scan tool feeding on the OBD port?

If so, that is the reason. The CRD doesnt like playing nice with other computers, the data bus is already overcrowded badly.

I do have my Scanguage connected, all three times. I will try to disconnect it and see if it happens. I will report back.

Mine will drop gears almost right away if the scangauge is connected. It's totally unusable with this jeep.

I will have to look for a EVIC than if I can't use my scanguage. But is it worth it if you can't calibrate my mileage? In my Jetta I had set the scanguage so when I filled up it was within 1/10 of a MPG.

It sounds like there are mixed results with how close the EVIC display is even with the GDE adjustment. Any more feed back on this piece of the GDE tunes?

I'm very happy with the Eco Tune Full Torque that I just installed. I've only run 1 full tank and haven't seen the mpg improvement, but to be fair I did some towing on that tank. I'm about to head out on a long road trip, will see what I get on a long 72-74 mph drive.

The general driveability is much improved, seems to run and shift smoother, power is available right away at all speeds. I'm going to install the transmission module in a week or so and will see how that compares as well.

My fuel gauge wasn't improved at all. It reads a bit different, but probably worse than before. It stays on full for nearly 100 miles, then I had gone 280 miles or so at 1/2. By the time it was at 1/4 it dropped very quickly from there, almost could see it move.

I don't have an evic, doubt I'll install one after reading the comments here on the forum. My speedo error is about 4% by gps, so I just correct for it when I calculate mpg.

DING DING DING, we have a winnah! The Scangauge is not a "passive" participant on the data bus in this vehicle, and because of the screwy way that Mopar decided to design the computers, bad things happen when another player joins the system.

The ECM and TCM speaks DRB, the ABS and BCM speak another protocol... Who knows for the SKIM and airbag computers. What you experience is the conflict that happens when too many controllers are trying to take control and speak, and the ECM "gets annoyed" and kicks the offender off the system entirely. That is what happens when your Scangauge locks up, it has been ejected from the system. If the Scangauge is not the victim of that, but the TCM is the one that gets kicked... The transmission will be thrown out of gear violently. This is what you have experienced.

Take the scangauge off, and your problems will vanish. The SAME THING will happen with just about any of the inexpensive scanners. The only one that I haven't had this problem with, other than a DRB3 (which I don't own yet) is the super-expensive AutoEnginuity scanner. Before you buy one of those, contact me. I have one that I might be willing to sell.

I'm back from my trip, here's the results. First, I had been deducting 4% from my miles as I assumed the odometer matched the speedo, but noticed with my gps that the odometer read 5% low. Then I read here that all the '96's read 5% low with stock tires. So, my mileage is looking better once I figured that out!

On 3 full tanks, 457, 498, and 555 miles on each, I got 27.4, 27.3, and 30.4 mpg. All 3 tanks were mostly 73-74 mph with some 50 mph secondary roads mixed in. I'm not sure why the 3rd tank was so much higher, only difference is my passenger wasn't with me any more. I'm very happy seeing those mpg numbers at that high speed.

Here's my gas gauge numbers. After topping off the tank I went 112 miles before the needle was exactly on full, 197 on 3/4, 308 on 1/2, 436 on 1/4, and 474 just below 1/8 when I filled up again. So, each quarter isn't as different as I thought but it takes a long time to head below the full mark.

I'll install my tranny module in the next couple of days. This vehice was great to drive on a very long trip, runs quiet and easy on the highway, I couldn't be happier with it.

Highway miles:
A long trip from CA to MT definitely revealed a mileage improvement with the tune. On the two full tanks of straight-highway miles I've driven pre-tune, I was getting around 24mpg pretty consistently. Post-tune, I've gotten as high as 29mpg, but consistently around 27mpg. This is all hand-calculated using gallons at fillup and the odometer. Mostly driving at 70-75mph. I haven't "corrected" the odometer by using a GPS, but from what I've read, any correction would likely only yield a higher mileage.

City miles:
Pre-tune was around 19mpg. Post-tune, I've never seen lower than 21mpg. Now that temps are warming up here in MT, I've been seeing those numbers improve a bit.

Overall driving:
-The engine run-up on cold start is a good way to know that the tune is in, but in colder weather (less than 35F) it does produce a bigger cloud of vapor and soot than I'm used to, but nothing excessive, and still not as much as my brother-in-law's old diesel Rabbit on cold-start.
-The turbo seems to provide more oompf at low-rpm than it did previously, giving a better sense of throttle control and low-speed maneuverability.
-I've also had the opportunity to drive high-elevation up and down the Beartooth Pass, with steep climbs just over 10,000ft elevation. The engine had no issue, and I noticed no effect of altitude on power.

A highly-recommended purchase, IMO, one which will easily pay for itself in fuel savings over the life of the vehicle.
