mine at about 1700 rpms in 4th or 5th pulling my trailer. A little more rpms realy helps the jeep. I'm thinking close to 70 is going to be like pulling in 3rd. arengant you can change to what ever you like.

I believe I can be in 4th as low as 40 and some ridiculous low RPM. At that low of RPM, no boost and EGTs are a bit higher. I don't do it towing.

Best I can say for towing lighter (see viewtopic.php?f=5&t=69117&p=739421#p739421) with the GDE EcoTune and an early basic TCM tune on I-10. We ran a pretty steady 62 in cruise at ca. 1,800 rpm locked up in 5th most all the time with zero change in engine temp from just left of dead vertical with Kap's tstat mod and a 195F tstat. Early in the trip we experienced a few downshifts to 4th when going up hills at least until we figured out that could largely be avoided by ignoring cruise and adding a bit of speed (ca. 65-70) in anticipation of an upcoming hill in which case we normally crested the hill with no downshifting. I will admit 1-10 is pretty flat when compared to other parts of the county but there are some hilly stretches.

Well, without towing and being on flat ground locked in 5th, if I goose it I skip 4th and go to 3rd (close to 3k rpm). I will have to check with GDE to see if it's a combination of hot tune and tcm or what.

I don't think so as the revs did not go into orbit at least by ear but to be honest I did not watch the RPM gauge or pay that much attention to the subsequent upshift. It only took about 3 hills coming east out of the valley from Tucson to figure out how to avoid the downshift entirely. For what it's worth these were actual noticeable hills not just bumps in the road, so to speak, or steady upgrade, those we could ignore entirely.

Well about ready to order. I just know when I get the tow tune and use it a little. I will find something I don't like about the custom program. I know he can redo but a 100.00 ever time. This is what I have in mine. Move all the shift points up 7 miles per hour 1 through 3, Shift to 5th at 73 back to 4th at 62 back to 3rd at 50 miles per hour. If I'm running 75 and floor it shift to 4th not 3rd. If i'm in 4th and floor it shift to 3rd if speed is under 60 miles per hour.

I know I'm miss some thing but have to start some where.

This is more of a tow rig not driven daily. I have a little car i drive back and forth to work

Sounds good! Third at 50mph is a little high rpm so I wonder if just unlocking 4th would be an option?

Can you break it down for each fear's initial change? I.e. shifts into 2nd @ 25, 3rd at 35, locks third at 40...?

GDE on his forma he has a break down under Recent post.

GDE Trans Tune Options for shift schedule

A lot of the time I tow in 3rd in the hills at about 60miles per hour set the cruise and let it go. If the mileage wasn't 12 in 3 at 60 I would tow in 3rd all the time. But in 4th at 63 on flat ground i've seen as hi 17 miles per hour. When going 30 hours of driving 5 more miles to the gallon is a lot!!
