UPDATE!!!!
PLEASE HELP
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5F0z74yePpE
new video
replaced alternator and took the butterfly out of the FCV
look at what happens to my dash lights and the noise when i try to start.
almost sounds like an bad starter, but the dash lights wouldnt do that.
i think it has to do with the circuit board on the FCV shutting the system down if so thats $500 my cost for that darn part
HELP with advise :banghead:

Check battery voltage before, during and after start attempts. If it's below 12 v, it won't start. This could be the battery, battery connections, battery ground, or any combination of same.

That's a battery issue.

one of the issues on Liberty's is that the battery must turn on the computer - before it turns on the engine

on is somewhere around 12.00V and dead is 11.99V

while other vehicles can have the battery slowly get worse and worse - on a Liberty a battery dies all at once

so - definitely needs a battery stress test - or a spare battery and Optima's aren't as good as they used to be
(production moved to Mexico and they now die at warranty +1 day)

FYI - to the folks that said CRD's don't have a Throttle valve - you're wrong - we do. It's not a normal throttle valve - it exists to choke the intake and allow exhaust gases in - part of the EGR system- nothing really to do with injecting fuel like a gasser.

If it was a battery issue then when I tried to jump it with my cummins it would have overcome any voltage issues
Ill swap the battery's out but not confident that's the problem :juggle:

I stand corrected. I guess I didn't let my cummins charge it long enough. I rehooked up jumper cables and let sit for 10 mins. Then the crd fired up! Thank yall Let c if she will act right now

Like I said earlier get a decent battery shop to load test that battery. I'll bet it's not completely up to par. While it's certainly possible your original alternator was on the way out and not properly charging the battery it's equally possible you have an underlying battery problem. Like 2 of the previous posters just said the computer system is, to put it mildly, extremely sensitive to any battery output issues. Your video appears to show an Optima Red Top. If it's original it's gone and if it's a replacement more than 3 years old I would not bet on it.

There are plenty of quality Type 34 800+CCA batteries that will work fine ranging from ca. $100 to an Interstate Megatron 85 for ca. $125 to the Sears P1 for like $210.

FWIW I'm still running on the original Optima battery with no problems except when my alternator was going downhill before I replaced it.

When my Optima battery went bad, there was nothing in the world that would jump start it. Had to have it towed home.

There is sometimes more to voltage issues than just the battery, although you have to have a good one. On the Volvo TD, I had a corrosion problem between the alternator bracket and the block that caused poor charging because of poor grounding. Drove me bats; Changed the alternator, changed the battery, changed the cable, zip. Finally put the multimeter on each step from battery to alternator and found the voltage drop. Some serious wire brushing and some No-ox and back in business.

As these Jeeps get older we will start to see such things, especially with the computers in these.
