I, too, think that Chrysler is making it expensive on purpose to show that "there is no interest in the US." Look at the new Cruze diesel... $25k and it has to be fully loaded in an automatic. Who pays $25k for a Chevy Cruze? My old Cobalt was an xfe base model was $9995.00 brand new, an was a leftover. For $25k, I'd just get a tdi...

Isn't the Cruze diesel also a VM Motori product?

Either way, both manufacturers need to smoke less crack. Those prices are beyond stupid.

Agreed, but we can judge abysmal Chrysler and dealer support based on the the abysmal support we got for our CRD. We can also judge high parts prices and poor availability based on our experience with the CRD. The vehicle may be different but some things will never change.

No, it's a Fiat so it's just another disaster waiting to happen.

We own Ford, Chevy's and BMW's and those dealerships aren't anything to rave about either, they are all in the same boat, they all deal with the situation in a similar way.

The Ford dealer is the worst, that one required legal fees.

As far as disasters, some of the CRD owners are doing just fine with over 310,000 miles on them, with proper maintenance.

Sure they happened, but to a certain few..... and I just am amazed at all the mishaps and disasters that happened to you. So many times, on 2 different engines, several turbo's and transmissions, your stories scared the daylights out of people.

Bad luck I guess.

The Mercedes, BMW, and VW diesels with which a $60K GC diesel competes are all in the $50,000 to $60,000 range. So I see where Chrysler-Jeep may be getting their price point. The central question, however, is whether the vehicles themselves are that close. My answer is no.

Reviews I've read say that the Mercedes is bulletproof, the BMW not so much, but is more technically advanced. The VW is not the best on any category, but is a worthy competitor on all. The Jeep, well, the jury is still out on that, but it does have some tough tracks to follow.

We are nowhere near needing to replace the 2001 Jetta TDI at 160,000 miles or the 2005 Libby CRD at 170,000 miles. Perhaps by the time we need to do so, "things" will have shaken out a bit more.

Check out the video comparing the 2014 GC and the 2013 VW. Pretty good info on the new GC. Way out of my price range but pretty cool.

Keep your foot out of the loud pedal, and it might not munch the tires as fast?

I know - that much power, it is just an amazing temptation. I REALLY wish they had brought the I-5 diesel motor for that here, instead of the V10. That truck doesn't need that much engine.
