How about a grid heater that is easily installed, and removed, like in the airbox? I would rather have that then carry a generator (for block-heater) in the back-country. hmm, if the filter and turbo could handle the heat, maybe one that's already on the market could slip right in the airbox feed? Or would the hot air on the cold turbo be a recipe for disaster? Maybe just one that makes the air 110 degrees or so should hurt anything, but should make the combustion chamber plenty warm? Nice toggle switch for only when you need it. :frankie: I think I'll make one, but going to have to wait for next winter to do any real testing :ALONE: Unless Weeks has a nice freezer to park a jeep in

Slip it in the feed hole of the box for winter, maybe a zip-tie on the inside to keep it from backing out, and a nice little plug in for it. Then yank it in 60 seconds for the rest of the year.

I think a grid heater that could be placed where the old FCV was located would make sense for those that have removed them.
The Dodge grid heater is in the exact same location right before the air enters the intake manifold, just on top instead of on the bottom of the manifold.
A toggle switch to activate a power relay that would include a timer circuit in case you forgot to deactivate the heater would also make a lot of sense. You could even include a temperature sensor in the circuit so it would not activate above a certain temperature if you left the switch on all the time in the winter. The Dodge grid heater works off of temperature, it also will cycle a couple of times during the heating process... :2cents:

Seth already stated he's working on a grid heater, I am sure we'll hear from him when he has a prototype ready ;). Plus, he may design one that will work with his egr kit, or at least most of it.

I'm afraid that I'm rather lacking in imagination, however the aluminium airbox/turbo and intercooler pipes sound good to me. Batteries in the back not so much; there's not a lot of luggage space as it is, and it would be a pain on the odd occasion when you want to drop the rear seats (why didn't Chrysler make them fold-flat??? and the front passenger seat fold forward??? - just whinging :D )

I would like to see a battery tray that holds a group 65 battery(or larger). My girlfirend gasser Liberty, but I believe it is the same between the two, will check tonight. I could see people with 3.7 Libertys that have winches want a bigger battery too. (More Sales)

If it could be made for under a grand (I'm guessing no), I'd like to see a kit for manual locking hubs. Having a front CV axle down your rig when you're in town in 2wd sounds lame to me...

This would also have a wider market outside of CRDs

A well designed mounting bracket for the spare tire that will not rust (aluminum?) , won't conflict with the hitch ( I realize the existing can be flipped over) , and that could hold other items like a jack or fuel container. Thanks

I love the idea of the solid pipes for the intercooler hoses. Thermorex mentioned a butterfly option to prevent runaways. I was noticing folks are adding ports for sensors to your elbow. What if A larger port was added to enable a CO2 blast to kill the motor instead? It could be as simple as a Life-Jacket or B/C inflation system activated through a pull cord valve. Even if the life-jacket cylinders don't have enough gas, maybe a small CO2 fire extinguisher in the cabin plumbed through the firewall. Has anyone seen anything similar before?
I recently informed my wife of the miniscule chance of a runaway, and had to tell her if it happens, just put in neutral and let er rip. :grim: At least with the CO2 there is a fighting chance the engine could survive, or at least not spew nasty bits through the hood.

I am removing the pipe that connects the exhaust manifold to the egr. Has anyone figured out a simple Plug for the exhaust manifold?

I just cut the pipe to about 4", and smashed the end, and folded it over, and hammered it tight. But, that was just until I get it welded, replacing turbo this week, and pulling manifold then to weld it.

But, that's pretty malleable pipe, so it would last forever just the way I have it now, and free :2cents:

I was thinking about a plug shaped like the pipe flange so to save the pipe in case there had to be a reinstall. I guess its off to the hardware store to see what I can find....

I found an old welch plug (I think you chaps call them freeze plugs) but had to run the skirts down in a lathe to flex it around the tail. Wanted to keep the tube in-tact to make a new one.

On topic - what about Stainless Steel bottom radiator hose?
I am going to make one in 316. The others are fine in the material they are at present but that long snake-like thing could do with being better built. It's a weak link in an older engine.
