DC really needs to use it Mercedes Experience with Diesels and BEAT Honda and a few others to the small diesel power units. 2700# car with 250ft#s of torque or so would be nice. If they don't they will be playing catchup as usual with them.

That is because men and women speak a different language, or so my wife says.

An old high school buddy had one of the AMC eagle wagons. This was back in the early 90's. My aunt had a Pacer back in the early 80's. I like the gremlin myself, but I wound up with a 78 Mustang II as my first car. I had the rare 2.8L V-6 in my mustang II. It was a great car for $150 :)

In compass trim it is a very ugly vehicle. However looks rather sharp as the Dodge Caliber and I am seeing A LOT of them around.

I have been trying to talk my girlfriend into considering a Caliber as her next and 2nd vehicle in our household. Reasonably utilitarian, relatively efficient, and somewhat sharp. Perfect for the street pounder.

However I would never have developed a Jeep variant on that platform.

From autoweek:
Most of the talk about the new Jeep Compass has centered on whether it’s a real Jeep. But we just spent two weeks in a Limited, the top model, and the question of “Jeepness” seemed secondary. This one, at least, was simply a dismal car.

Sharing a platform with the Dodge Caliber, Compass blends homely looks with unrefined manners to a degree not seen since the unlamented Pontiac Aztek. That this Compass Limited stickered out at $26,180—an easy $10,000 more than the base price of a Compass or that of a Caliber SXT—simply set its shortcomings in stark relief. The day water leaked into the cabin from the sunroof switch, drips splattering onto the sadly misguided CVT “automatic” transmission’s lever, we figured the polarization on the Compass’ needle was reversed. This thing’s headed due south.

You know, perhaps the engineers at Jeep built this thing right after all... they decided to build such a piss-poor car that DC would not ask them to do this stupidity to Jeep ever again. I think that is what they were thinking.
