Sounds like it’s time to check the wiring.
The relay on the SEGR should only be on in Park or Neutral. Get a voltmeter out and check those inputs to the SEGR.

By the way, I only included the AFC valve in the SEGR design to aid in shutdown. I was not, and still am not concerned with run-away on a diesel. My Dodge Cummins, Son-In-Law’s Power Stroke, neighbor’s Duramax, and my VW TDI don’t have any problems with run-away that I have heard of. None of them have an AFC valve that I have seen.

I believe that it was first put on the CRD to aid the EGR operation. I believe second that some smart code programmer came up with the fully closed idea as an afterthought for smooth shut down. Some marketing idiot passed it off as a “Feature.”

TDIs have the AFC as well. The older engines only use it for shutdown, but the PD engines use theirs in the same way the CRD does, to assist the EGR. There are a few stories on tdiclub about runaway diesels - it happens more than you might think.

Diesel trucks are for manly men - Diesel shudder is a desired function, enhancing manliness - CRD KJ's (mall Jeeps) were designed for soccer moms and dads, coming outta the gasser (patooie!) closet for the first time, and traditionally complaining about every tick, tremble, and even any felt bump when auto-shifting thru the ranges - only way for the little shaker to be accepted during the crossover would be to reduce the Diesel experience - twin balance shafts and the shutdown-enabled FCV almost proved to be the healing patch, but for the reduced driveability maliciously installed by the bean-counters, incl the slush-box programming in the TCM - it's a sad, sad, topsy-turvy world

But, hey.....how about that Rachel - nice, huh?

Why then have you still got the pathetic looking engine cover on your Motori
if this is supposed to be a manly piece and nobody will believe that you don't have it on unless you post pics to prove it.

I guess you mean this as a joke? Or did posts get mixed up due to our last 'crash'...?

FWIW there is no Euro-version of the CRD. Only Export.

I see it like this:

Soot in intake manifold = bad

EGR = soot in manifold

EGR = bad

Is that kindergarten enough for everyone?

Hmm...may have something to do with Euro 4 emission standards...

I deleted my EGR valve and EGR cooler on my TDI around 50,000 miles. I also spent about $5.00 at the local car wash using a high pressure washer to clean out all the gunk from the intake manifold before bolting it back up and installing a straigt race pipe in place of the EGR valve.

I'd be interested to find out if anyone has pulled the intake manifold on their CRD to see how much gunk the EGR valve has allowed to build up in the manifold.
