I installed a Sears P4 in late November, spins quicker and starts better. Great warranty!

Oddly enough, my stock battery lasted around 4 years and finally died many moons ago. I then went to Autozone...got a new one and it died 1 year and 1 week later. Tested Alt all good, picked up another batt and 1 year later dead. I also had one blow it's top nearly clean off. It left some nasty acid scares on my fender *shakes fist at Autozone* test alt and everything came back A-OK. Checked out some other things and all look good. I swapped my battery another time or two and am now awaiting the 1 year mark. Battery is already starting to bulge a bit on the sides, lol. No clue why other than the heat here in Vegas. I don't know, I am getting irritated with it but am seriously leaning towards a Optima Yellow Top. I know you guys are talking about the Odyssey but we will see. I am getting sick of swapping the darn thing out every year nearly to the day.
I have talked to a ton of friends over in Iraqi and Afghanistan and all swear by Optima. I figure if it can handle that heat it should be good in my KJ. Just my 2 cents though.

Just Replaced the orginal 5year old Fake Optima with a Interstate Megatron 2 34R (700CCA). The Orginal was working good until this last winter, Seams Like it did not like the -40F weather here in Montana.
Don't care how long it lasts, it was free.

I went with an Oriely Auto rebraded version of the famous "Deka Intimidator".........AGM type, 750cca, 120min reserve. One of the best batteries made, and got it on sale for $125

Installed Sears P-1 Platinum battery today. Cost was $170 + tax. Bought online (-10%) last night, picked up at store during lunch and installed in parking lot. I think online sale ends March 18th(?)
Fits in the tray and the terminals fit without rearranging them.
Original/Optima battery was dropping to 11.9V after setting for three days and morning startup voltage was below 9V, I figured it was time for a new battery after 44 months.
I did go into limp mode for the first time after work. Did a right turn and no power, pulled over, shut off engine, checked under the hood, restarted/rebooted and ran like nothing happen. Thinking it might be the tranny relearning the shifting.
Now it starts much faster and would think better for the vehicle.

I am very happy with the Sears Diehard Platinum (Odessey rebadge). Like the above poster said, $170 or so installed.

I will give the Optima credit for making it the longest of any battery I have had in the AZ heat-- 4 years. The heat here kills batteries fast. You are doing good to get 2 summers out of a top of the line lead acid battery here.

The AutoZones are a joke. I have a "gold" in my crapbox car. It is an ok battery. Autozone was the only thing open when the old interstate battery died around midnight. So I got the best battery they had. It lasted a year and a half. Kept the receipt and now have the free 7 month old replacement under the hood. Hope it makes it through the summer. This battery is NOT maintenance free, you get to add water every month. Forget too and it dies even faster when the cells dry out. I don't see how they can even warranty it nowadays, because few check the fluid level.

If you go offroad, you really want something besides a cheap lead acid battery that will leak everywhere when tilted (you want something besides the AutoZone).

If you can't swing the DieHard Platinum, try the Deka Intimidator. They are hard to find, but a good value for the money. That will probably be the next battery for my crapbox car.

First CRD..factory Optima...zero problems.

This CRD...5 years...78K miles...zero problems.

I will be looking for another Optima when/if this one dies. The Optima design is better for diesel vibration too, as well as offroad use.

I have read on here that the redtops now are inferior to those that originally came in our CRD.

I too am still on the original OEM battery. About 2 months shy of 5 years. I see absolutely no reason to change from the Optima red top, and will get another when mine finally dies.

I remember someone stating that the OEM red tops were inferior to retail red tops. Either way, it's a great battery.

I always thought so too. I am on mine now for 52 months. I think what was said was something like the management all quit or was fired at redtop and the product was not as good as they once were. You know how rumors go.

My red top is about 5 years (05 CRD), with no issue I been thinking the sears P-5, it has the right Positive as ours and is about 740 cca. plenty of power for Florida. or maybe the Deka which is the braille.

I went to sears today to see if the P-5 was the perfect battery and it was but there was one problem;
The battery was too tall and did not want to take the risk, then went for the P-4 but did not like those side teminals, then went for the P-1 and it was a perfect match. The only that concern me was that the battery was almost one year old -Oct of 09-. I know that I have a 48 month replacement warranty but would that be an issue against the battery. What do you all think.

I picked up a P4 today. I seem to have killed my yellow top optima so I replaced it with the P4.

The P4 and P1 are the same but for the side terminals.

bought my P-1 on 11/23/2008. No problems to complain about. Like the warranty. With all of the electronics and electric gadgets (think fuel heater, self-shutting glow-plugs, etc.) I figured I needed the juice. The red-top I had puked and allegedly had a bad cell. Blanket on redtop not big enough to wrap around P-1 but of all things, does it really bother me? If the redtop was bad (and I believe it was for multiple reasons), I blame is on my idler pulley that also knocked out the alternator (written about in an ancient post) ~70,000 miles ago.
