Probably good thing I'm not there to enjoy the Autobahn, I would probably kill myself. I raced a new 5series BMW 3 times yesterday at 3 stop lights in town and beat him across the intersection everytime and he never caught me before having to brake for the next light. I bet he was as mad a old wet hen. Hard to beat all my bottom end torque.

Yeha I know what you mean, the 270 was not shabby as long as you gave the turbo enough time to spool.

Sport mode and ESP off really helps the jack rabbit starts, that and full tank of fuel.

LOL yes the ESC has to be off. I hate that little triangle thing in the middle of the speedo too. Funny how well you can get the car to do 360's!!!!!

Yes it will get real squrrially, but not like my old SS 396 Impala with drag pack option of close ratio 4 speed and 4:11 rear gears with advertized 375hp, but dyno would say about 425 or little better. But it did scare the crap out of one of my buddy's who has never had any kind of performance car when I took his for a short ride with about 1/4 tank and hammered it for him, the thing got to fishtailing as it was smoking the rear tires and he white knuckled the sissy bar.

I wish I'd had a camera to take a picture of the gas gauge on the last trip to Texas. Just as I was getting into the outskirts of Nashville on the trip down, I hit 400 miles and it was still showing 1/2 tank. By the time I hit 1/4 tank and chickened out, I was 80 miles east of Memphis, 527 miles and it took 16.5 gallons - dead on 32 MPG. If I'd had an extra jug of fuel in the back, and hadn't been looking at being in the middle of Memphis trying to find fuel, I'd have been tempted to try for the 600 mile club.

Am I the only one here that has made the 600 mile club?

Nope, did it last year on a road trip. Just once though. 31.7MPG on that trip.

Nope 600 miles on one tank to Kentucky and back, chickened out south of Knoxville. took 19.5 gallons to fill. Would not have made it all the way home if I hadn't stopped.

I did 1005 miles on a 96 Passat TDI wagon I owned one time  The wife was steaming as she said I was going to walk
Later this week I'm going to take a road trip of just under 400 each way and hopefully come back with a travel trailer :) That will be my first real trip in my CRD and I routinley get 400 per tankfull of all city driving.

I'd like to know what you guys/gals are doing. I really have to baby mine to get 25mpg. I have never made the 500 mile club and most of my driving is in the flattened midwest. 40 PSI tires. New airf filter (purolator) every 6-12K miles (inspected at each oil change). ORM. Few WOT situations. High quality, all-domestic, sweet crude B2. I have not disconnected the muffler and I do not have the rear air "spoiler" for the back glass. I implemented the ORM when the vehicle was already warm and running, does this make a difference.

Strangely, I seem to be getting better mileage when I drive harder or faster. This is just a feeling right now not scientific. but the last two tanks I have babied, keeping the RPM at 1800-2000, also not going over 65 but still came out with 22.5 MPG. The two tanks before that I drove it hard and fast but got upper twenties. Four different sources of fuel but that is still a pretty big difference.

Right now I'm at Camano Island, WA that has lots of driving up and down hills. I'm drivings country miles no highways and still get 25 MPG if I keep the RPM under 2000. Since I usally don't go more than 10 miles at a time, the tank last two weeks. :D ulsd 2.95 :? B20 3.35

My experience is the same. Seems mine is happiest right around 75 with dashes to 85 here and there  ORM, EHM, Filter head connections unplugged.... everything else is stock. It seems the optimum range for me is somewhere between 2000-2200. A lot of our break in miles, unfortunately, were spent in that range...perhaps that has something to do with it?

Sadly, Old Navy is right. Most folks math skills are so pathetic they are unable to relate to miles-per-gallon. They can barely handle miles per tankful. The VW forum at Fred's has the sad tale of one guys girlfriend who traded in a high-mileage car with a large gas tank for a lower mileage model with a smaller tank, convinced she'd save money: after all, a fill-up costs lest.

it is ok try doing Liter per 100 kms and then back to MPG in 2 different languages. I hate math.
