Just saw this...glad you're well. Good luck on your search. 'twer me, I would seek a bluetec GC....
Thanks.
I checked on the Bluetec Grand Cherokee and although the bluetec is a superior engine, replacement parts are astronomical and difficult to get.
According to my local Jeep parts dept, if something major goes worng with the vehicle (a need for a new cylinder head for example), the whole engine is offered as a replacement part instead of the head.
The parts manager said that Mercedes parts are virtually nonexistant and you cannot buy them directly from Mercedes, they do not offer them. He said that if you think the Jeep Liberty CRD is a headache to deal with when it comes to replacement parts, then the Jeep Grand Cherokee CRD is an even bigger headache with an astronomical price tag.
The split between Diamler Chrysler must have pissed off some high Mucky Muck at the Mercedes parts department.
By the way here is a link to the Copart auction site where my totaled Jeep is listed. It doesn't look that bad now that I look at it. The engine needs a lot of work though, a new cylinder head gasket for sure and lots of broken parts.
Here's a link to the carnage:

was it the airbag that caused your injuries?
Yes it was the air bag that caused skin burns to my arm and fractured my wrist.
Something I would like to point out regarding the air bag is that it did not deploy on impact, I prepared myself for its explosion but it didn't occur.
The air bag didn't deploy until after the vehicle came to a full stop and my body was safe at rest, approximately 3 to 4 seconds after impact, which made its service useless and causing harm to my arm and wrist.
I scoured the net to see if others had gone through this same scenario where an air bag didn't deploy on time and discovered that there were many.
I believe that an air bag deployment is capable of causing major bodily harm and possibly even death.
What good is having an air bag if it doesn't deploy at the moment of impact and it being the major cause of bodily damage in an accident?
Furthermore, there's no way to know that the bag is not working properly untill a major crash occurs and by that time it's too late.
