Where can you look under the hood to see if I may have a problem with oil silt? The stuff that causes the EGR to clog and die or the intercooler to plug up. I just want to check my CRD out before it develops a problem and then I can bring it up with my dealer. I have 51,000 KMs on it so far and no problems really. I think the fuel I use is cleaner up here so I might not develop this problem as soon. |

Your use of metric and term "cleaner up here" makes me guess your from Canada? Haven't heard it called oil silt yet, but I like it! Only thing I can think of is to pull the hoses off the intercooler inlet, and outlet, and see how much gunk is in them. If my conversion is correct, it sounds like you've got 31,690 miles without any real problems yet. |

Examine it for oil. However the "silt" you are referring to only happens when the oil vapors are mixed into the EGR. You should not see any "silt" in the output hose of the intercooler. |

Yah, I'm from Canada. Getting back into my jeep, lift, tires, bumpers, etc. I want to make sure to take care of any problems that I might have now instead of after I install all that stuff. Dealer might try and put the blame on my accesories. The oil in the hoses, should it be like normal used oil or will it be thicker? What should the oil look like in the hoses or should there be any in there at all? Thanks for the great help! |

The oil in the hoses, should it be like normal used oil or will it be thicker? What should the oil look like in the hoses or should there be any in there at all? Thanks for the great help! The inside of the hoses are silicone lined so it will be easy to see the black oil against the red lining. It starts as liquid/slippery and will turn sticky (like tar) as it dries out. The presence of oil is debatable. If you believe DC, coated with oil is normal and acceptable which is actually truthfull with an unfiltered CCV. If you listen to most experienced diesel mechanics, they should be completely clean and dry and the presence of oil is a warning sign of turbo seal failure. BTW: isn't it supposed to be Egh? Not Yah? |
