| Post subject: | EGR Throttle Controller |
Took Bean Burner to the Dealership today for a CEL (Surprise Surprise) and The Service Tech said that it needed an EGR Throttle Control. The Service Adviser stated that this the first one that they had replaced (Throttle Control). Also looking at the history of my CRD she stated that the last EGR valve was a new batch and that they had not had any problems with the new ones. She stated that DCX had changed the EGR valve. The dealership does do alot of CRD work. Also while talking with the Tech and Adviser they both stated that DCX will come back out with the diesel Liberty in 2008 |

Forget that CVT, they are unproven as far as I am concerned, either heavy duty MB transmission or I will go with a hemi. |

I would wonder about the CVT as well. I am no a Jeep guy so before buying what I consider an alternate fuel vehicle I looked at others. The only other one that was really around was the Escape Hybrid but it had no tow capacity. I was told that the CVT was a large contributor to that problem because of durability. I am not an expert but that is what the dealer offered and he knew for me that it was a deal killer so there was no reason for him to be saying it except for honesty. |

If properly built the CVT tranny would be great as it works to keep the vehicle in the proper torque range, the problem has been building one that can do the heavy towing. The great thing with a CVT in a 4x4 or AWD is there is no need for a low range and all that weight that goes with having regular tranny and transfer case, you just build the CVT with what ever you want for it's low range and upper range. The CVT is just a PIA in a gasser because the max torque range is so high compared to a diesel. I would venture to say they will eventually get the CVT sturdy enough to handle diesel torque. It sure would be great to to be able to take off and go with the CRD just staying at 1800 RPM thanks to the CVT all the way to cruising speed with never a shift or gear hunt by a tranny. |
