I finally met another CRD owner today, at a Hot Dog stand in Maine, of all places. Needless to say, we were both very suprised as neither of us had met another real live CRD owner. We talked for a few minutes regarding the Jeep and he mentioned that he does all his own maint and what a pain it was to change the oil. I told him about the Fumatomo oil valve and he is going to look into it.

He had a good idea about changing the filter and keeping the oil from dripping. He said he bought a very large funnel and some hose at home depot and holds it under the filter when he spins it off. The far end of the hose goes directly into his dump pan's drain hole. He claims that he gets no oil on his garage floor when he does it this way.

Just FYI

My big funnel wasn't made right to do that, so I tried the Wal-Mart bag and ended up with bigger mess then last oil change. I like the funnel thing and I use to have a large red funnel that would have worked, but I think I fionally tossed it for some reason. I may have to look into buying another.

Is this a skid plate related issue? I just used a larger diameter pan the 2nd time I changed oil. Was a clean job but I don't have skid plates.

Yup, it those darn skids that catch the oil.

Speaking of skids, had a semi blow a tire at 75 mph in front of me the other day. The guy in front of me was on a motorcycle and got hit in the leg, but no serious injury, however I was heavy on the brake just to keep from running him over. One car had oil pan busted, and would you believe it was a rather new MB 450 SE that was behind me. I'm headed out to the dealer to look around better for damage, but seem skids paid for themselves, there is a couple of black tire marks on underside of the Jeep and pieces of rubber and wire was hanging from skids and brake cables when I looked under it on the road. The guy on the motorcycle was shaking so bad after everyone got pulled over and stopped that he could not light a cancer stick. He did have a pretty big whelt on his left leg, but no damage I saw to the Hog. I sure am glad I was not in my Magnum, aluminum oil pan and no steel skid plates.
