RECALL COMING ??

Hello all,
Just crawled under the new truck to look at some oil dripping when I saw a wiring harness about to be burned in half in the next few hundred K I think.
I have attached a picture, maybe some other owners can check to see if you have the same happening. ODO=2000Miles / 3300KM

where does the oil dripping come from?

Endurance, attached is a pic of the area where the oil is seeping through, few drops a day.
Seems to be between tranny and oil pan adapter, it's enough to make nice spots on driveway and garage floor.
I cleaned it before taking pics, but you can see the oil spreading around the oil filter and back.

Those two bolts don't go into/penetrate the oil pan so if you have oil up there I would suspect leaking oil flter or leaking turbo oil return line.

Defintately check the filter. Have read reports of loose filters on these motors.

Anything is possible, but it seems it's coming through the plate that sits between the tranny and oil pan , But I'll turn the oil filter a notch and see what happens !.

gd5092, must be they discovered the problem because I just looked at mine and there is no wire harness near the "unprotected" hot pipe. I see your build date is a few months earlier so how knows?? Hope you get your problems fixed though.

After the filter, next possibility is what OldNavy said. Turbo oil return line is pressed into a rubber gromet in the block. Also look for the possibility that oil from the CCV hose is puddling in the air inlet snorkle and leaking around the connection at the face of the turbo. Mine was doing that before installing the Provent.

I have a oil leak as well. I went to the dealer and they told me they couldnt find anything. Me and the mechanic then went together and looked under the Jeep. It turned out to be the oil drain plug, the one you can see on the picture. It was leaking extremely little but you could see that the outside of the screw was getting wet, the thread. The mechanic said it was normal and nothing to worry about. I think he was just tired of dealing with it.
They also said that they ordered a new drain plug and will install it when I do my next oil change. Dont the dealers screw up that drain plug on a regular basis? I remember hearing some storys about that.

Heard of various places, especially the quick lube places, messing up the threads when they reinstall the drain plug.

The solution is to not ever remove the drain plug. Get a drain valve. Just open it and let'r go.

The Fumoto drain valve for the CRD is the F108 and CRD-108. The website has all the info.

It is worth taking a look for sure. I suspect this isn't a wide spread issue but a mistake routing the harmess. Thanks for the heads up.

Yea those threads are non standard and are very steep angle and easy to cross thread and probably prone to leak if not properly torqued or over torqued. It just didn't make sense for anyone to make a thread like that for something that is going to be reused frequently. But Cowpie 1 is correct, get the Fumoto oil drain plug and adaptor that way yours or someone else's mistake won't leave you stranded because of a cross threaded bolt.

CHECK YOUR DRAIN PLUG FOR A COPPER GASKET!
After doing my first oil change I was poaring my oil into a can to bring to recycling.I found a small copper ring in bottom of pan.
Could of easily been lost in the oil.

I also found my gasket in the pan after my first oil change and this was causing a slow oil leak. That gasket is defenitely needed. Once oil was drained and gasket replaced no problems at all.

I was just checking fumoto website and wasn't able to find one for 2.8L Diesel. It says that any valve is not available at this moment.

Went to the dealer yesterday and they replaced the plug and the copper gasket free of charge. No more leaking!

Went to the dealer for 1st free oil change.
They did not find out where the leak was coming from yet, so they added some dye and will see next change where it leaks.
So no resolve yet, it's still a drip or 2 a day.

You won't find it direct from Fumoto. www.lubricationspecialist.com has a custom made adapter for our oil pan.
