Cann't remember under what topic it was under, but someone gave a comparision of the stock tire to other tire sizes. If anyone can remember what topic it was, or could repeat the "chart", I'd be very appreciative>

This link will give you all the info you need and even on speedometer/odometer and other factors. http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp

Well looks like there have been changes since about 6 months ago. Also try here http://www.tirerack.com/index.jsp

Post subject:  Tire Size 101

When sizing tires, there are three numbers included in the size. The first is the width of the tread on the road, the second is the percent of the sidewall to the tread, and the third is the wheel size. For example

225-70-R15 means that the tire is 225 mm wide, 157.5 mm tall, and a Radial tire on a 15 inch wheel. This would mean that if you wanted a tire that would have a wider track but still turn at roughly the same speed, you might want to try a 265 60 R15, which would be 265 mm wide, 159 mm tall, Radial on a 15 inch wheel. (This was a common swap to turn our old chevys into "street cars" when I was a kid)

Using our Jeeps as a reference then, they have 225 75 R16's from the factory. If you were to replace those with 265 75 R16 tires, you could calculate the difference by doing the following:

225*.75 = 168.75 mm
265*.75 = 198.75 mm

Add the 16" for the wheel size, which is 406.4 mm's. Then divide the new size by the old size

605.15 / 575.15 = 1.052

This means that when the spedometer is showing 60 MPH, you are actually going 63 MPH (60*1.052) and your odometer will be low by approximately the same ratio.

Hopefully this helps give you a bit of a mathematical basis for calculating tire size and speed.
