OK, don't know if this is typical or not - only have 400 miles on this rig, and this has been happening some since I got it ...

Normal driving, let off accelerator to slow down - engine drops to idle - if I try and accelerate before I stop (like coming up on a red light that turns green right before you stop, or in rush hour) sometimes I'll get a sudden snap or bang as the transmission comes back into gear. Definitely doesn't feel right. Has only happened (so far) at slower speeds, usually under 30-35 or so. Doesn't always happen either ... anyone else have this? Also, is it normal for the engine to drop back to idle when off of the accelerator as you are slowing down? It doesn't happen immediately, but after a couple of seconds.

If by "normal driving" you mean 55 MPH plus in overdrive, I sometimes get the impression that when the TC unlocks then you accelerate a little it will try to lock again even though it is below normal lock speed. Others may have a better explanation but I have noticed it a couple of times too although I would not describe it as harsh in my CRD.

Sorry - It was late, and I should have been more descriptive. By normal driving, I mean I'm not trying to qualify .... Just moderate throttle with smooth input. I'll try and give a better description.

At about 30 mph, if I let off the accelerator and am preparing to brake (or starting to brake) and the need to brake goes away (i.e. light turns green or traffic starts to move again) if I have not come to a complete stop and am still moving around 15mph or so, when I go to accelerate back to speed (and using smooth, moderate throttle) the engine rpm will come up, like the trans is in neutral, and then BANG into gear. It won't jerk your neck, but you definitely feel the trans slam back into gear. This doesn't happen all the time in this situation, but some of the times. It is definitely worrisome, considering I only have about 450 miles so far ... has anyone else had this issue? If so, what was the resolution / outcome?

The build date of the trans was sometime in May of 2006 (1456? I forgot the exact number) and the TCM has a sticker showing a software update ....

This is exactly what mine did. I noticed it following a quick a "rolling stop" on an expressway entrance ramp. I stomped on it to merge and nothing but engine rev then "Bang" (followed by tire squeel and smoke). This was a wild ride when it launched (the little torque monster really runs!). It's happened twice since then but can't reproduce it for the dealer (I bet they had fun trying). Dealer updated the software (TSB 18-009-06) and this finally this week did the tranny filters TSB 21-007-06 and just hope it doesn't happen again.

I had the same problem. Took it in the dealer and they did a "quick learn" on it, and I haven't had the problem since.
