| Post subject: | Liberty CRD Diesel Power Module? |
Hey all. I am new here and i have a new CRD that is awesome. I stumbled upon a Jeep Liberty CRD Diesel Power Module at the site I go for Jeep mods. Here: http://www.rocky-road.com/crdmodule.html Rocky Road Outfitters is reputable and I have gotten several things from them in the past. But I was wondering if anyone had heard of or used this in their Jeep? Does it actualy do what it says and are there any downsides? Thanks. ~wingfoot |

I look forward to the Gurus' replies on this one. Someone was talking about a European power module in another thread a while back. I wonder if this is the one? It sure sounds good! |

My opinion - I get plenty of Go and pretty dang good mileage totally stock. And that's with a CEL for the 3rd EGR. I can't justify a $600 self-inflicted (and product manufacturer admitted) CEL just to get more... Not to mention that DC will promptly deny your warranty if they find out. Many of us are having trouble getting the TSBs and warranty action without anything added. Also, didn't I read in another post about a budget lift kit that Rocky road was not a high quality company? |

So I guess I should clarify.... I am definitly open to input about Rocky Road. I got the gap skid plate and rock rails from them for my 01 liberty and didn't have any problems. But that was all. |

This is a good module, I used it for awhile and was very pleased. You will see a BIG performance increase by using it. That said, I would caution it's use if you are one of the lucky ones experiencing EGR problems or are concerned about engine emissions and reliability. When I got my first CEL for the EGR, I noticed that the module tended to overfuel causing alot of smoke when the throttle went to the floor. This also resulted in popping a differnt CEL code, and would make the engine switch to a limp mode as a result. Pulling over and cycling the ignition off/on resolved this. The limited documentation for the module recommends dialing down the setting. There are 16 total and it is "tested" on the CRD at setting 12-13 (B and C). No amount of dialing down has resolved the smoking issue. I blaim this on the module because removing it resolved the problem. No more fuel pressure CEL or smoke when removed it. Regardless of how hard I drove it. I also am now seeing other EGR issues with the flow control valve. It is possible that once this is resolved the module will work fine again. I'm not sure if I will have the guts to try it...... |

I've been using a Predator chip in my CRD, and the only problems I had was amplified issues on the whole tranny slippage thing. Which SHOULD be taken care of tomorrow... :: knock on wood :: Yay for Saturday hours... If you haven't used a mod chip, it's going to blow you away how much more power you generate with one. I was impressed as hell, and cant' wait to put my Predator back on the Jeep. Enjoy, and good luck with it! |

I was at the dealership performing my 25K preventative maintenance on "Diesel Schedule B Maintenance Plan". The diesel tech asked me if I was planning on using a chip mod and suggested TS Performance out of Bowling Green, KY. tsperformanceproducts.com/new_product.asp# I answered that I did not want to void the remainder of my warranty. He stated that his dealership did not take a grim view of "plug and play" products on the diesels because of the majority of Ram Diesels serviced have aftermarket chip mods. Continuing the discussion, he informed me that a "hot button" for the dealership was when the diesel chip was taken off prior to visiting the dealership and the customer swearing that their was no aftermarket mods causing an issue. At that point, the tech simply hooks up the DRB reader and scrolls through the values of the mass air flow and injector pulse width historical values and the truth pops out. Then this statement really suprised me........ The dealership then simply tells the customer to take the vehicle elsewhere, because they can't find out what the issue is. On the other hand, if your truthful they will work to find out if it was a true warranty issue or a chip induced problem. Very interesting......... |

What you want to stay away from are modules that increase fuel rail pressure. CRD's already run a high fuel pressure in the Common Rail and the injectors are built for that pressure. The kind of modules that you should look for are the ones that adjust only one thing after the ECU...they will usually get increased power by lenghthening the "pulse duration" on the injector. That means it will add more diesel at the same pressure for a longer duration. Those are the safer type modules. Just make sure the module you get is a "CR" type that has Bosch connectors. |
