I know theres gotta be (lotsa) someones on here thats added a EGT pre turbo I just can't seem to find it in a search!

A write up would be great! A write up with pics would be greater! Coming to my place and doing it for me would be the greatest!

My gauges should be here soon, and I'd like to (hopefully) tackle it this weekend as it will be nice and cool!

I have mine post-turbo, but would like to move it. It looks like there are only 2 viable options.

1. Cut a hole in the R inner fenderwell and use it to drill into the exhaust manifold from the side.

2. Use either a R angle drill or a long drill bit to get at the manifold from the top of the jeep.

I'll look forward to YOUR pictures and writeup on the subject!!!

Besides having the "perfect" temperature, what is the need for pre-turbo?

Post will respond slower to load increases, true. But it will respond just the same. And in a comparable ratio, bigger load increase will cause post-turbo to increase more than a small load increase. Most of us are not maxing out the engine and many are not even running performance modules that risk a higher-than-design EGT. There is limited risk to burning out the turbo.

The bigger need, as I see it, is to monitor your load in a trend, going up over time or down as you back out of the throttle. And the need to monitor the EGT as the engine idles down prior to shutting it off. Without installing a timer (and fighting with the ignition deterents, etc) we can simply watch the temp leaving the turbo and use that as an approximation of the temp within the turbo...

Not to mention that the threat of shavings inside my turbo not apealling to me, regardless of the trusted advice I have read here about slow spool up at engine start and the low risk, etc. Just can't justify drilling while the manifold is installed. If you're gonna do it, might as well do it right. And have a darn good reason to go to all that trouble...

Post Turbo works great EGT --I had a shop remove the exhaust, which is no small task, cross member
removed, exhaust lib is like the big cummins flange with a clamp, had the hole drilled and welded in
the thread tap, and then installed the EGT probe, works great, no risk of damage and who knows what
else you can do while you have the exhaust off

At the VW TDI GTG in MI the guys help a L.O.S.T member install a post turbo sending unit, was fairly easy to do with a lift, and several people helping.

Old Navy - That lift worked great! With all the help I had, I had hard time working on my own jeep. Great bunch of people. Are any of them coming to the GTG in Oct.?

Glen, aka MOGolf will be here, Marty said he was going to try to make it again. My guess is there could be 3 or 4 here that were at MI GTG. Then there had better be you here for sure, MOGolf may need a gofer.
