This baby drove the Pan American Highway, all the way, before it really existed in like 1961! |

I have seen one for sale before but I can't find it now. It was an Australian company. I thought it was Safari Snorkel but they don't have one listed. |

I wonder how much a sparrow would restrict the air filter? I'd think those little feathers would realy choke off the air! |

Snorkels always point towards the front like that. They have a screen that keeps the big crud out of there. Your air filter will do the rest. There is a theory that having the snorkel "scoop up" air like that provides a "ram air" effect that helps mileage and performance at highway speeds, but it has been disproven through non-biased testing (on a Wrangler, anyway). A snorkel HAS bee proven to provide significantly lower temperature air than from the engine bay, however. |

Well the ones I saw 20 years ago in Africa and down in Central America all were facing 90* right, also I seem to remember a friends old J40 LC had his facing the rear and was about 10" above the hood. The Vehicle was shipped to Aloha state Down Under, then he brought it back to the US and had it a lot of years down in Columbia SC.

I've never run throuh water much deeper than the floorboard in anything, but if you need a snorkel, aren't you going to need a drain plug in the floorboard too? Surely doorseals don't hold back water for long? Heck some of them don't hold back air! |

the company making the snorkle in australia is Gibson RM, the mould has been approved for pre production, we are talking weeks away now guys , oh and a lot of the time a snorkle is used to get clean air into the engine instead of dust when on a dirt track downunder, the water fording is a bonus |

no they have thought of that as well mate there will be 2 options once its plumbed in, 1 using existing airbox after blocking the drainage holes and forward facing inlet 2 using a Donaldson filter which is more compact but has ecellent filtration properties ( they use them on the road trains in outback australia ) due to the nature of the dirt roads they must travel on they really are a sight a semi trailer pulling up to 7 full sized trailers some times evem more they average about 177 feet long |

Another person who thinks snorkels are only for fording water... Cooler dust-free air is what we in the desert will most need a snorkel for. Of course the water thing's a bonus... |

DarbyWalters wrote: Problem might be room in the CRD Should be room enough to come out the bottom of the airbox (would require new box bottom) the just take it out the side of the fender. I bet they make the top of the snorkle movable so as to be turned 90* or 180* from the front, probably just a simple pull up and turn 180* and probably in 2 different hights with maybe an extra cost optinal exstension tube.
What is the projected cost to us US buyers? Shipping and duties will be a real slap up side the head and probably add $65 to $70 to the cost. |
