I changed out the stock air filter at 5,000k to a WIX made CarQuest filter and noticed a dramatic difference in turbo performance. No more lag, just a smooth spool up. That seems to have made more difference than the straight through Magnaflow. The new filter has more and longer fins than the OEM. I'm impressed! |

WIX does put out a pretty darn good air filter as they always have, the question is if they have better air flow or better filtering or a combination of both compared to the OEM filter. With any turbo vehicle I would want a filter with the absolute highest filtering capability, which IMO is AC Delco. Why? Because a turbo is an exhaust driven air compressor so you don't really need any higher air flow capacity to make the engine perform better, a higher flow filter would help but is not nessicary I'm glad you're happy with your WIX filter though, I've never heard anyone complain about one... now K&N on the other hand |

Say what? Did you mean it to come out that way? sound kinda contradictory to me. A higher flow filter WILL help engine performance on a TD in regards to turbo spool up and EGT's. If the turbo can't get air quick enough it won't spool as fast as it could with a high flow filter which means it can't feed the engine the air it needs. Which should basically equate to a rich condition (too much fuel) which will in turn raise EGT's. Now with our Libs having a mass air sensor the 'overfueling' scenario should never really come into play. But I would still think a high flow filter should have some determining factor on how quickly the turbo spools. Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong! |

Changing to a highflow air filter on say an Acura RSX-S gives much higher gains as the engine is ATMO. But yes, you are correct in what you are saying. |

I just got another OEM air filter for $19.99 after tax at the dealership and it's getting old paying that much for them. I've decided to change out air filters every oil change and right now that's every 6,000 miles+/- It's probably the same part number as the 3.7L engine. |
