With all these EGR valves being replaced it makes me wonder post warranty. Do these EGR valves need to be replaced? Is the dealer just replacing them and making no attempt to cleaning them out. Have the 2005 owner figured out if the EGR counts as part of the powertrain warranty? |

There's two egr valves. The second is called egr flow control valve. It's a mechanical motor driven butterfly like a throttle on a gasser. More then one multiple egr valve replacements were determined to be the flow control valve. I read it has plastic gears in it. I don't really thing they are gettng clogged because it happen too soon. 06's don't seem to have as many problems, maybe too soon to tell, but it could be a better or correctly made part. As far as the warranty on the erg valve. Another on another forum it looks like it's 24k epa warranty on it but it might not be so. Also since a good number have failed they may be looking at a ca on it and the tranny in the future. |

Have the 2005 owner figured out if the EGR counts as part of the powertrain warranty? My dealer had to clean and re-use an EGR last fall on another CRD when they couldn't get a replacement. It worked. As far as the warranty question, EGR is specifically listed as not a 7/70 Powertrain Warranty item. Covered 3/36 unless you have an extended B2B warranty. |

$300-$400 every 15-30k. It's more an issue of labor as it takes several hours to remove, clean, and reinstall the valve. If you reinstall a bad valve you will be SOL and have to start over. From what I've read, there are ways to bench test the valve before reinstalling. Also believe the dealer needs to install a new part and return the old one to get paid under warranty. |

What symtoms do you have when your EGR is going out? Check Engine Light or Preformance or both? I just want to know what to look for. |

makes me wonder post warranty. I was talking about a what I may get stuck with after the warranty is up. As, I'll probably be at 36,000 miles in two years. It troubles my wallet to think of having to replace a EGR every 15-30 thousand miles. |

Dropped my CRD off last Friday, asked them to check out the code on the odo - no CEL light. Called today, they said it was ready, they put in a new egr valve, same part number as last time, and flashed with latest PCM update. No TSB number on paperwork, but a label on the TCM, number I don't recognize. Record speed for me getting a new egr. Engines runs great. Got home, smelled something burning, checked it out, right rear disk brake stuck, really hot. Another Saturday project. Jeep deserves a special mention to their quality assurance process... |
