Had 2 peeps tell me today that there was some kind of recall on all Liberty's due to a steering problem. What's the good word?

They stopped delivery of my CRD in Bremerhaven so I had to wait a week to pick up but this was done. It is a spring and gear that must be replaced.

I read about the the play in the ball joints but this sounded like some news flash. I didn't realize there was a recall for the BJ's anyway. I guess I've spent too many hours reading about the tranny issues and EGR failures.

So it's not the ball joints? :?

When the ball joints are replaced is an alignment also required?

Technically, the ball joints are considered a suspension item, perhaps one reason why I didn't think of them when my pals mentioned a steering recall. An alignment should be done if they are replaced.

no it was a spring and a gear that was replaced in the steering rack. I will look back and see if I can find it. maybe if I ran my VIN it would show up.

I thought that an alignmnet is required but I read somewhrere they don't align due to the lower ball joint isa precision fitted item and they don't mess with the toe in toe out. If they don't align it I will have it done somewhere else rather than risk trashing my BFG's.

I can see where this could be called a steering problem. It's a problem when you you leave one tire & strut assembly on the shoulder of the road.
