Got in my CRD and started heading to work when my CEL came on. It's running just fine, tho. Had my neighbor (Jeep mechanic) check for the error code, and he's not getting anything to read. Perhaps it's the notorious EGR thing? I DID notice my fuel mileage was down a bit today when I gassed up. Thoughts on ways to find out before hitting the dealership, anyone? |

If the key trick didn't work sometimes places like Autozone will scan your computer for free. I finally have my check engine light off after waiting 5 weeks for the EGR flow control valve. So you have restored balance to the universe |

When you "GASSED UP"!!!!!!!! Perhaps that is the problem. Try "FUELING UP" next time! |

Your jeep is jealous that you bought a TDI. Its just trying to get you used to CELs which, if you are unlucky, you may see quite frequently with your VW (hope you don't though). Probably EGR. You should invest in a provent CCV filter for each of your diesels. |

Probably EGR. You should invest in a provent CCV filter for each of your diesels. I can believe the jealous part. Mine's went thru an EGR and two glow plugs (three CEL's) since getting the '87 300D. Give the scanner 3 or 4 tries before giving up. Something about the latest programming that bumfuzzles OBD II scanners. Advance couldn't read mine on the first try either, kept saying "data link not established", but on the 4th go round it finally hooked up and gave us at least the generic codes. Definitely second the Provent idea. If you could have seen the intake system on the '87 MB after 134K miles without any type of CCV filter, oil and grunge close to 1/8" thick, and realize that's what the intake system of your CRD could eventually look like, you wouldn't question the need for one. Had to sacrifice 3 gallons of good B20, a large tin washtub, and several small wire brushes to try and clean all that gunk out of the charge air pipe and intake manifold. They're soaking overnight, trying to get the last of that junk out. |

They have a replacement module waiting for me in Bellingham, and will be doing some service on the little beastie at the same time. Update on the Liberty... CEL was caused by Glow Plug #3 going out. Apparently it's taking "longer than expected" do get it back together. I think in laymen's terms it means a tech has goofed up and broke something... LOL Apparently my intake was quite dirty so they are putting some new revision crankcase vent on it.. they musta heard ya, Drewd. Anyhow, hopefully both my diesels will be in tip-top shape in the next week or less. I'm on vacation for the next two weeks, so I will have some time to spare to take care of it. |

THIS SOUNDS INTERESTING, A REDESIGNED CCV VENT! Yes it does, as does the redesigned pump in the transmission, and the redesigned ball joints. Now the question is, are they going to recall for the transmission and the CCV or do we have to beg them to put these things on,aka TSB? I for one don't want to wait for my intercooler to get plugged up, or for my torque converter to go out... and I don't think I should have to buy something aftermarket when they should fix the stock stuff that does not work. |

I can probably explain the "longer than expected" part. For #2 and #3 glow plugs, they have to remove the stub tube and AFC valve to get at them. They didn't realize they needed the gaskets for these, didn't have them in stock, and had to order them. Same thing happened to me this week, taking a day longer than expected, but at least the dealership was honest and said "we goofed and didn't order the gasket for the intake". |

Vox, does this mean you are having your jeep worked on at Rodger Jobs? I just bought my CRD from them and am hoping they know what there doing when they work on it. (Sounds like some dealerships, really don't have a clue.) |

(Sounds like some dealerships, really don't have a clue.) Hey there Bovie! Sorry for the confusion, but I'm having my Jeep Liberty done at Lithia Chrysler-Jeep in Renton. My visit to Bellingham for a replacement module is for my 2000 New Beetle TDI. I bought the Beetle at Keith Cox Autobahn (GREAT buying experience, and good customer followup!). Got my Liberty at Kirkland Chrysler-Jeep (would NOT recommend them for sales, but the service seems good). Hope you're enjoying that CRD! I like mine! Cheers! |

Maybe Vox can take a picture of it when it's replaced and post it here... |

Is this the egr air flow control or something else you're referring to? I don't remember seeing any other valves behind the stub air tube... Did they end up replacing all 4 as you wanted to? |

My 05 Libby has been in the dealership since last Monday. Waiting on parts for TC and Tran Pump. I will check with Tech tomorrow morning to see if they are widely distributing the redesigned CCV and if I'm waiting on the redesigned Trans Pump. |

Keep us posted. If there truly is a new CCV Vent produced by DC, then they have finally recognized a problem and tried to fix it. I'm certain they need to figure these things out in order to ensure the diesel Grand Cherokee is a success here in the US. |

If they get you fixed right, then I'm using them next as they are just a few miles from my work. You'll have to PM me the tech's name that is working on it so I have a contact name for someone with experience working on these rigs. |

I also give my vote to pics of this new CCV deal, lots of them, from all angles If it is different Im sure it wil get picked apart by everyone here. And would give me lots of hope for continued support down the road. |
