I am interested in getting a travel trailer. What size has everyone pulled with a CRD? Weight and length? |

I just got done pulling a trailer from Kansas City to Orange County, CA with little problem. 5 x 8 enclosed cargo trailer with a 3,000 lb. GVWR. Had it about half full but it was some heavy stuff like an old welder, steel framed mini-bike, and some antique furniture. Well, there was one problem... Cross-winds caused a lot of trouble with near overheating and terrible fuel consumption while going across I-70 in Kansas. |

I think the overheating issue is just an over sensitive gauge. I recently pulled my 18' trailer with a Contour SVT (3068lbs) 600miles one way, and then threw an 88 TBird on it (3400lbs) back the other way 600 miles. I averaged ~19mpg which I didn't think was too bad considering, and also had the 'overheating' issue when going up long grades. |

I have hauled a 6x12 covered trailer in 115 degree heat at 80mph. The trailer was about 3000# with everything i owned in it. Also it was bigger then the jeep in height and width. The temp started to rise a bit on a hill coming into the valley, so I cycled the ac on and off. too sensitive temp guage? I'm not going to push it, got up to about 3/4 on the dial once. Other then that I think the crd could pull more then the jeep can handle. Personally, I wouldn't pull more then 3500# w/o trailer brakes and sway bars. just my two cents |
