This just gets funnier by the minute. Now they are ordering removal of the TSBs 18-008-06 and 18-009-06 with a recall. So, those of us that were proactive and fought to get this for the "improved torque converter and glow plug durability" did it for nothing. What's even more funny, is I got the one after that, but not soon enough to keep me off their recall list so I'll get a notice anyway.... Makes you wonder what is really going on behind the scenes. It does not even state what software is going into them now... http://www.alldata.com/tsb/Chrysler/115 ... /3101.html Why does this only reprogram the TCM, when it's called and emmissions recall??? Notice it says through July 14, 2006 for people who received 18-008-06 or 18-009-06 - that's when 18-023-06 completely replaced those two... So, they are totally wiping them out... |

All looks like smoke and mirrors to cover up something. It's not adding up. If the after market scan tools cannot read the software in the TCM, then reflash the TCM but why wipe out the previous TSB's? The Emissions label on the recall smells of EGR software changes but that's governed by the ECM not the TCM so again does not add up. |

I'm confused. I checked the Jeep site and the recall applies to me. Should I also ask them to perform TSB 18-023-06 while it's in the shop for the recall? |

The only reason this makes sense is if the earlier TSB's threw the CRD out of compliance with the Federal Emmissions standards. That would trigger a recall. My guess would be that this is a fix for those TSB's to get back in compliance and may also include some ot the changes in the most recent TSB that many of us have not been as proactive on. D/C really would not care if the TSB fouled up third party programmers and it fouled up their own dealers it would be handled simply as a new TSB if you came in and they needed access to the programming. Something stinks here. |

2 recalls now apply to my crd, some of you have had more(or cust atisfaction sub recalls) Eventually by the time they figure everything out we should be well covered going forward getting stuff fixed by DC.... The worst part is if they had done more testing or came here and read what we have learned this whole mess could have been fixed by half way thru production and saved them millions and us hours and hours wated waiting for our crd's to get work done. |

Some states use the OBDII port as part of their annual auto inspections, specifically to read emissions data. No data, failed emissions inspection. First time they couldn't read the data anymore, DC would be getting calls... Bet this flash does nothing more than restore the OBDII communications. My OBD reader stopped working on the CRD immediately after the 18-009-06 TSB. This kind of flash to fix problems introduced by prior flashes would indicate a rather sloppy QA process on their software testing. Wonder if all these transmission flashes are having the same kind of problem? Who is writing DC's code? |

I checked mine and its listed on the recall list. Back to the dealer again for another TCM flash. If I wait a while, I might be able to catch the next TCM flash and save a trip... |

LOL, I did that and now saved two trips. |

| Post subject: | 36% of all CRD's flashed with 18-008/9-06 for issues |
If you read the Recall notice, they state that approximately 4000 users had their CRD flashed with 18-008-06 or 18-009-06. If you read those TSBs, it addressed torque converter longevity, glow plug operation and a few other issues. 4000 CRD owners had enough of a problem to take their vehicles in for flashing - and we know how much of a hassle that generally is. That's 36% of all CRD's ever made going back to the dealership for a TSB to fix an issue. This is somewhat revealing on how widespread the problem covered by these 2 flashes is...but the number one reason I've seen for getting either one of these TSBs was torque converter problems - either tranny shudder or shifting problems. Not too many people are so concerned about their glow plugs that they endure a Jeep dealership visit to get a tsb for just that. |

After reading the notice, I don't think all of the vehicles being recalled have been flashed after being sold. It says that the vehicles which have had the TSBs done have been added to the list. At least that is how I read it. |

So maybe 4000 owners prolonged the longevity of their transmission |

Some of the 4000 may have been done by dealers before 1st sale. Who did the tsb isn't the point - what is significant is that 36% of all CRD's produced had this TSB performed. The TSB's most significant feature is not the gp tuning, but the torque converter longevity code update. When trying to determine how widespread the transmission issue is, it's a valuable piece of data that at least 4000 were designated as eligible for an update. That figure doesn't include those who may be having tranny issues, but whose build date fall outside of the recall range. This indicates at least a strong trend that the transmission problem is fairly widespread. If only 10% of those 4000 CRD's had a tc failure in traffic, that would amount to 400 incidents qualified for an NHTSA report. It only took 118 such reports to generate an all years all model recall for Liberty balljoints. |

I think they built a few thousand with bad software and flashed hundreds more. Not a shining moment for their code writers in any case. This may tie in with what the people at Scangauge (aftermarket codereader/gauge) told me about using their product with the CRD. They indicated the OBD2 interface on the CRD was kinda screwed up and that it would simply stop communicating from time to time. |

I know of at least one case where exactly the opposite happened. I had the 18-009-06 done and my TC still failed in a rather dramatic fashion a few weeks later. It grenaded while driving to work and ultimately locked up in an intersection. Didn't seem to help with longevity. |

Took mine in today for a Sirius install and the F21 recall. They told me that it needed the F31 as well. |

Did you get the F31 done today? Notice any difference in the shifting pattern or power levels? |

Nope, read the TSB. If you had it done AFTER July 14, you should have gotten the correct version. Might want to check before taking it back in. |
