Anyone upgrade the 2005 7/70 warranty to cover more then the powertrain? Which level did you choose and why?

Considering 1) parts availablility and 2) parts cost, I am seriously thinking of taking the plunge and buying the extended warranty - the one with the loaner car. Normally I would do all of my own work when the warranty is up, but considering the way Diamler/ Chrysler is going I am a little concerned with even being able to get a ECM/PCM/EGR/Glow Plug/insert other part name here in 2012, let alone what it might cost... And the fact that its even hard to get a code reader to tell a guy what is wrong in the first place.

For instance, I have a 99 Dodge Ram with the NV 5600 6-speed. D/C dropped the NV 5600 from the product line for a new 6-speed tranny (G-56) last January, and there are basically no dealer parts available for the NV 5600 anymore. Now I know that the Magnussen Act requires dealers to keep parts available for 10 years after the last model year, but D/C seems to have found a loophole - I guess indefinate backorder is OK but discontinued isn't - even though the result is the same. Fortunately there are hundreds of thousands of diesel rams with the NV 5600 so the aftermarket is stepping up, but with only 10k or so CRD's, I'm not so sure.

I bought the zero deductible, 7yr/100K mile B2B. Have the same hunch about parts for this Jeep but the best warranty won't make parts available. If availability will be a problem, so will cost. I look at this as insurance to get rid of it in a few years should this model turn out to be a lemon.

OK let's expand this to the 06's also as we only have 3 years/35k. It's not the cost or availability for me. It's DC's desire to get it right and replace the TC and EGR valves(s) and not patch a problem with more flashes. Their record with the ball joints is proof enough what their going to try to get away with.

Let me/us know if you find a source for a good factory warranty at a discount. I know with my Sienna, they would not bugde below $2400 when I was buying the van, but I found a dealership online, on the east coast, selling the factory warranty (7yr/100k b2b) for $830.

Maybe somewhere out there is a dealership selling warranties for Jeep as well...

DC sent me information on their extended warranties. They have 12 plans available with prices from $1490 for the 5/70,000 basic to $3505 for the deluxe 7/100,000.
For me the 7 years/70,000 basic at $1730 might be the one. Terms are 5 or 7 years and mileage is 70k 85k and 100k. The deluxe includes trip interuption and car rental for longer then overnight. If you take it to your dealer that sold it to you there's no deductable but if you take it to another it's 100 per visit deductable.

I got the 70k b2b when I bought the CRD in 4/05. At first the dealer said they would not deal on the price which was about 1,500 for the warranty. I passed on that, then they said I could have it for 750 which I again turned down. I then got it thrown in for free as part of the purchase.

The lesson here is not to believe anything anyone says at the dealership and to be as cutthroat as they are to get yourself the best deal. Remember, if you walk away you can ALWAYS come back to the deal.

I'm leaning towards the 7/70k b2b myself, but I need to verify that that includes a loaner. We put about 10k a year on it and that will tie in nicely with the 7/70 powertrain. Figure in 7 years it will either have all of the bugs worked out or it will be going down the road.

Sadly its true that a warranty won't make the parts any more available in 5 years, but I'm thinking more of having leverage to make D/C step up to the plate and fix it rather then just say "sorry, part isn't available or its on national backorder forever"

I'm going to call some of the big discount dealers Monday and get some prices - but if anyone has any suggestions on dealers that have good rates on the warranty I'd appreciate them

I used chryslerwarrantys.com and selected the $100 deductible plan to cover just about everything.

The dealership pissed me off when they were showing me extended warranties. (I asked to see all the options from DC and they brought me 2) I didn't buy one at time of purchase. But I expect to go back and get one from them before 12,000 miles or 1 year. (that was the DC limit for getting an extended warranty with out paying more)

I expect to buy the 7 100,000.

I've been considering an extended warranty policy to extend my 3/36. Warranty Direct offers a wrap around policy that covers the emmisions including the EGR for a little over $900.00. This will take the warranty out to the 7/70. Anyone familiar with this company and as it going to be as good as it sounds. I figure one EGR will cover the cost.

I bought an extended warranty from Wynn's (who no longer sells direct to public but I got mine from dealership 30,000 miles after sale). They offer "the best" warranty and more than that, they pay by credit card for you, and any facility not just Jeep dealerships. This was important to me as I travel a ton and might not have a good dealership there.

The longest term you can buy from them is 100,000 miles (starting at 0 miles, regardless of current miles) and then different year terms. Cost was $1400 and I consider that a steal for the B2B and high quality of Wynn's and the fact that I dragged my feet until 30,000 miles. Rental coverage is included in that price and I believe $0 deduct (but might be $100, not sure).

Well worth the cost for me as I dod very little of my own wrenching and have very little time for repair outages. Considering parts availabilty and the related price was just a bonus.

Does this mean we can, or can not, call them and work the same deal???

Hmmmm. x2. So You can get the rental just for the case of your KJ sitting in the dealer lot for an EXTENDED amount of time during that "indefinate backorder." THat sounds like the way to go to me rather than be without a car for 2+ weeks at a time.

You can call Wynn's if you want to be told, "Sorry, we don't sell to you anymore." But if you call your friendly 5-star dealership they should be able to hook you up.

One of the reasons I held on to my 19-yr old, air conditioner-challenged, buick station wagon in South Florida through 2005 was to wait for 2006 CRD models to come out, because of this article:

http://www.greencarcongress.com/2005/06/jeep_libtery_di.html

which says: ..."Chrysler Group is extending the warranty on diesel engines in all 2006 model year vehicles; the Diesel Engine Limited Warranty covers engine parts and components up to five years or 100,000 miles."

From what I'm hearing around here did Chrysler actually REDUCE the warranty coverage instead?

Ken.
There's been some disscusion about this here before. There are two versions of the 06 owners manual. One talks about a engine warranty STARTING at 36k or 3 years and one that does not. My 06 was made on 01/17/06 and my book talkes about the added warranty. However I think the general consenses is they "ment" the cummins engine as DC refutes any extra warranty on our CRD's
