Had a cycling buzzing noise just behind the alternator - figured it was the EGR solinoid. The service advisor told me it was the 'throttle control module' that was bad, but the part they ordered was 5166555AB, which I am pretty sure is an EGR assembly. Hmm.
On the positive side, he said it would be in tomorrow.
What you are describing is the noise the EGR flow control valve makes after the engine has been turned off. It looks like a "throttle control module" to the non-diesel. It's function is to close the butterfly valve shut when you turn the key to the off position to starve the engine of air so that it quits quickly rather than "Dieseling" the engine to a halt.
Prior to the EFI days, Dieseling was known to happen to an engine that would have a hard time stopping after the key was shut off on the ignition. The engine would sort of stuttuer to a stop.
There are three separate components with the word EGR in it.
1)EGR flow control valve
2)EGR
3)EGR Cooler
